I was under an impression that a lot of changes are made to the cars which are exported to Europe to ensure that quality is top notch as compared to their indian variants.
But, it seems Tata's aren't doing much to ensure Quality is upto the mark.

The article also states 'We do not doubt that the company is meeting European standards, but just meeting the standards is not enough'. So true.
Also, Since the car is exported, It might be difficult for Tata to price is too low due to the taxes that it may have to pay, Because even the Fiat Panda is available cheaper than the Indica.

Still they managed to sell 3000 odd cars, imagine with a better finish what theyc an achieve. But simple they wont, they cant. Look at Mahindra for that matter, their fiorst proper car was Scorpio and look at iots fit and finish.

Years of Merecedez tieup didnt teach TATAs anything, i guess what they are going to learn now.

Indica Vista is far better Car compared to the the car tested in Italy.

Yes, it may not be lacking few things compared to Getz (i20) or Swift. But they are manged to pack and sell 60K less than the Swift.

I am comparing the VDI and Vista Aura models with Price difference + cost of additional features available in Vista, hence arrived the 60K difference.

I am sure the Tata's will take the criticism positively and use it for product improvement. But we must applaud them for taking a purely Indian product overseas to one of the most competitive markets in the world.

I dont think Vista has anything missing which Swift has.(If we talk about ABS it is coming soon in Vista and moreover Swift Abs is rare as MUL is not able to produce many).
Rather Vista has many features which Swift Vdi doesn't have!

hilarious tushky! Are they really Tata jokes or is it a Ctrl-C,Ctrl-V job?

Anyway, when the Innova is panned for bad build quality (Review: Toyota Innova | The Truth About Cars), what hope does an Indica have?

Slightly OT, but I dread to think what rating the Indian built Swift would get...

Lovely jokes.
The reviews themselves are from a "driver's car" pov. Tata, catering to a huge Indian market, has been packaging cars for cheap, affordable ownership instead. So the outcome of the reviews is expected.
In all honesty, India is where the global brands really get pitted against Tata - and they've done admirably so far. Sluggish ? Pretty adequate for most driving needs in the markets they mostly operate in. Poorly finished ? Sure, but my Honda's not doing that well after its usual share of traffic scrapes.
You got to see (drive?) the car in context. And in its intended context, its done fabulously well so far. Ask any taxi driver - they would not trust unreliable cars with a bargepole - especially for out of town stints.
Now that they are going global, the product packaging (I will not blindly call it "quality" - thats too sweeping) is changing dramatically too. The new Safari, the Vista are steps in that direction.
Edmunds/TG and co have a right to their take on this.
Buts its a familiar story - the Japs, Hyundai, Kia .... we'll revisit these reviews in, say 2012 and have a good laugh, perhaps

Re: Zara Hat Ke: American auto site edmunds insideline drives 4 tata vehicles in Ital

In my last visit to Madrid, Spain I had a fortune of seeing a pristinely maintained shining black Indica Petrol. The car looked clean with a high gloss and the black colour was awesome. I think it sells there as a Rover product.

Not only I but my colleagues also felt proud to see and Indican car on foreign soil and that too in such a well maintained condition.

Inspite of foreign high end brands of bikes and motorcycles seeing and Indian manufacturers car on foreign roads is something which makes us all proud doesn't it?
