Skoda Fabia COTY 2008

OK, so now I am sure that a good joke is overall made out by the automags. Fabia, Linea, G3HC and this is the list I never expect to win. Zig wheels is correct. A-star deserved the win.

There was a time where COTY awards were given to same car. But not its all weird. I cant trust them anymore.

Now looking forward to IndianCOTY.

OD's got to be kidding!!! They think that a hatchback that is:

- Currently the worst selling hatch in India

- Has a lousy range of engines, especially the 1.2 Petrol and the problematic 1.4 petrol.

- Is overpriced and on par with most C Segment sedans

- Is on par with luxury sedans in maintenance costs

deserves the car of the year award

. Ah, we forget.....Skoda may have shared some of that strong stuff they've been smoking.

Frankly speaking, i am shocked at it.

For the COTY, Honda City or Fiat Linea are much more deserving than the Skoda Fabia.

Even the Honda Accord and the Toyota Altis are better contendors than the Skoda Fabia ( IMO )

Says OD - This might be a small car in size (and boot space) but in all other respects (including price) this is a car knocks the wind out of most sedans’ sails.

Several things they got wrong - for a hatch, the Fabia boot is actually big. For a hatch, the Fabia is overpriced by a lot. (Sure, it is sort of imported like the salesman at Vinayaka cars told me repeatedly.)

Agreed, Fabia was a first in many aspects. But not worthy of winning COTY 2009 even if i20 or Linea were not in the picture.

Arre its so plain and simple. ANHC and Linea were already taken by other mags. So Overdrive was left with no choice but Fabia. Ofcourse, how could they give the COTY award to a car that has already got one from another magazine? Well, thats the price you pay for being late.

You all are acting as if these awards really mean something more than a marketing gimmick.

This whole COTY thing is a big joke in India.

Fabia doesnt deserve to be COTY, reasons same as those outlined by GTO.
Linea doesnt deserve to be COTY, its not even launched in 2008.
A-Star does not deserve. Small boot, 3 cylinder vibrating unit, negligible boot, poor front visibility etc.
A-NHC is overpriced for what it offers.

IMO, the real COTY is Swift DZire. Reasons?
- Terrific engine which translates to good FE and performance
- Good on space and ride
- Its a sedan priced less than some of the "premium" hatches
- Most importantly, its a Maruti, so is backed by legendry A.S.S. and peace of mind.

We can all argue for our favourites. At least it is a car which is 'on the road' and not pseudo vapour ware.

One must not forget that it has created to super hatch segment, expanding on the theme set by the Swift. Only wish Skoda have got their act together and have started working seriously on the support and service.
