All New Honda City is the ICOTY, does this settles the issue?

city is all petrol.
fiesta comes in diesel too, so does the verna and optra and linea too?

Sx4 would be my second choice after ANHC.

nothing comes close to i-vtec!

1) Fiesta - Don't look further than the 1.6S if buyin a petrol... Amazing looks and handling...

2) ANHC - Overpriced, cramped though stylish...

3) Verna - Excellent oil-burner... Let down in the handling department. Best Diesel car to buy...

4) SX4 - Alternative to the Fiesta 1.6 and the City... Good looks and size...

5) Linea - Small engine for a big car = DISASTER...

6) Aveo - Remnant of a long-gone era

Agree with most of your findings barring few:

1) ANHC CRAMPED!!!

^^ Compared to what? Fiesta? SX4? Liniea? IIRC it has more leg room, better under thight support than all cars mentioned. Fiestas front seats have no thigh support, Linea's rear is cramped with front seats partially back, and SX4s middle seat disaster (albeit recently fixed) make them far from perfect.

6) Aveo era gone by statement, by that standard even Fiesta is from a by gone era as both launched together and Fiesta has just had a minor cosmetic upgrade and Fiesta S has a minor suspension tweak for sporty handling IIRC. Of course the rut GM finds itself in, no one can justify buying an Aveo and the product is far from perfect.

Just curious what exactly is your thought. City is one of the most spacious car in this segment.

Nice thread!!!. excellent topic

I feel fiesta looks great on Indian roads.

ANHC is good to see when its singled out. But it misses to create the impression.

Linea, never seen one on roads.

Verna looks very aerodynamic. Lots of curves and cuteness.

Fiesta with its stunner looks and superb sporty ride, will beat any car in its segement

cramped!
compared to what? Definitely not even one car under discussion here! The most cramped car in this segment would probably be the smallish Fiesta.

Looks are subjective. However I think Linea and City do stand out from the rest of the pack with their stylish designs. And IMHO Verna is probably the boring boring looking of all cars under discussion here.

Linea has probably the best road presence of all. The car will be easily noticed.

whats with the ANHC havent seen much of them on the road??
and for a fact the OHC guys all i know of HATE the ANHC and NHC! NHC is down right ugly as per them and the ANHC is a poser Boy

i know of guys who would still go and buy an OHC VTEC and non-VTEC if relaunched again!! same goes for baleno also!!

do check out the spares cost comparison in autocar india march issue. not sure though!

the ANHC and Aveo are dam expensive in the segment followed by fiesta and more cheaper is Verna the most cheap?
yup the SX4. thats the most cheap to maintain!.
but the thing is oil burner and cheap maintenance nothing beats the verna!
add to that the reasonalble A-S-S of the hyundai guys!
you get performance with economy with oeace of mind!
looks are subjective. and for city use there is the automatic now! how much better do you guys want it to be?? leave the airbags!!
can the ANHC ever match the mileage of a fiesta?? nope!
driving charecteristic of the 1.6 or 1.6s?? big nope!!
Honda is ripping the customers for long! lets see till where they will do this??

Petrol

1) ANHC - First among equals. Comfy, good FE and decently fast. -ve -> no goodies, banal rear, too soft steering etc. A bit too plain jane :(

2) Fiesta 1.6 - Does everything better than the ANHC, except two imp things - space and FE

3) SX4 - Underrated to an extent. Main -ve -> Maruti power steering and GC

4) Linea - All show and NO go.... Unless they give a better engine..its going to be a flop (the petrol version)

Diesel

Verna - The only diesel and a rocking one too! If only it could handle well. Plus looks ugly!

Fiesta - Slow..

while looks are subjective, what is not subjective is the fact that some cars have styling which is not in tune with what is contemporary and are rather dated. People may still like them but I also agree that there is nothing wrong with that.

Tell me, which car is perfect? As someone said, all cars listed here have their pluses and minuses. And none is perfect. Which is the best depends on how closely the car's qualities match with one's requirements. A hot-blooded BHPian has a set of preferences very different from that of an average city commuter who wishes to take his family of five on occasional trips to the hill station. How can both come to agreement on desirability of a given model?
