Toyota India and Maruti-Suzuki each have two models in their respective segments that have topped the long-term vehicle dependability survey, conducted by the J.D. Power Asia-Pacific group.

While the Hyundai Santro tops the compact car segment and the Skoda Fabia dominates the premium compact car segment, the midsize car segment is ruled by the Maruti-Suzuki Swift DZire. The Toyota Innova triumphs in dependability in the MUV/MPV segment, while the Toyota Fortuner scores really big in the SUV segment.

Ironic that two discontinued cars - the Skoda Fabia and the Honda Civic - lead the table as the top two cars with the least number of reported problems.

But it again goes to show why the car-buying mass put their utmost faith (and money) in the Swift DZire, Innova and the Fortuner.

Thanks for sharing! No wonder why Toyota and Maruti holds the bullet proof reliability badge in India. They proved it again.

Few of my observations -

1) In compact car segment Estilo has made its entry Alto has not.

2) In upper compact car segment i expected Hyundai I10 & Honda Brio.

3) In premium compact car segments after so many horror stories from Skoda and Volkswagen they tops the list leaving behind the most popular Swift!

4) In entry mid size car segment Indigo Cs has made its way but Honda Amaze has not!

5) In the Muv & Mpv section i expected Maruti Ertiga over Sumo Grande.

6) In suv segment Safari/Scorpio has made its way but Pagero sports or Skoda yeti has not.

Maybe it's because all those cars have a higher number of reported problems than the ones highlighted.

As the graph clearly suggests, the top 3 cars in each segment (in terms of the least number of reported problems) and the segment averages have been shown.

Also, those numbers are per 100 cars, so even when the Skoda Fabia and the Honda Civic have the best scores, 120 is still a pretty high score. In a nutshell, for every 10 Civics purchased/maintained over the last 3 years, 12 problems have been reported. Goes to show the quality of vehicles we get in India from the car companies.

Fabia & Polo beat Swift for IQS, that is a surprise for sure considering what we read from owner's here. Also, Vento is above average in mid-size segment. In all, VW group has performed quite well this year. Who topped the Jetta & Superb segment considering that Accord is no longer sold?

Maruti Suzuki Tops Customer Satisfaction With Dealer Service- JD Power Asia Pacific

Interesting to see some results.

The average problem per 100 vehicles are more or less same for all categories except Midsize segment where it is significantly lower. And VW stable mates lead that!!

While most small segments are dominated by Japs and Koreans, it is interesting to see some unexpected players there.

Nano beating (or matching) Eon. Polo beating i20. Beat better than category average. City beaten by VW twins.

So what I gauge from this is that Europeans (even Indians in case of Nano) are matching, even beating the Asians when it comes to delivering problem free vehicles. Seems only when something goes wrong in these Euro machines, the A.S.S trouble starts. It would be interesting to see the ownership/ after sales report for this year.

In general I gauge a poor performance by Indians (except Nano, but then expectations are also low for this segment). No Tata or Mahindra even in SUVs/ MUVs. Even when Ecosport or Duster are not known to have too premium a quality.

Good to see Maruti leading in the entry and compact segments and they are not far behind in others, now if they add the safety features as standard it would have been great.
Also nice to note and not surprised the VW /Skoda is at top in the mid segment but it is the A.S.S that is spoing the show.

Not at all surprised with Honda being placed lower in Quality, the Honda City proves its stand in the chart( mid segment)

The 2015 results of the J.D.Power Asia-Pacific Indian Vehicle Dependability Study are out.

Important points:

- The 28 percent of owners whose vehicle is under an extended warranty or service contract report fewer problems than those whose vehicle is not under an extended warranty or service contract.

- In 2015, 34 percent of owners indicate their vehicle has undergone repairs for unexpected problems, down from 37 percent in 2014. Owners who experience unexpected repairs report a significantly higher number of problems than those who do not.

- Among owners who indicate they have not experienced a problem with their vehicle, 74 percent say they “definitely would” recommend their current model to others and 52 percent say they “definitely will” repurchase their current make. In contrast, advocacy declines to 53 percent among those who experience at least one problem with their vehicle and loyalty drops to 37 percent.




- Honda Brio ranks highest in the upper compact segment.
- Honda City ranks highest in the midsize segment.
- Maruti Suzuki Alto ranks highest in the compact car segment
- Toyota Etios ranks highest in the entry midsize segment.
- Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Toyota Innova rank highest in a tie in the MUV/ MPV segment.

The 2015 India Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS) is based on evaluations from 8,507 original owners who purchased a new vehicle between July 2011 and September 2012.

The study includes 65 models covering 16 nameplates and was fielded from January through April 2015 in 30 cities across India.

As per a new report released by JD Power, new model launches propel improvements in long-term vehicle dependability in India as owners of these models report fewer problems than owners of existing or continuing models.

Vehicle dependability study includes 65 models in 13 vehicle segments: multi-utility/ multi-purpose vehicle (MUV/MPV); sport-utility vehicle (SUV); premium SUV; van; and car—entry compact; compact; upper compact; premium compact; entry midsize; midsize; premium midsize; entry luxury; and luxury.

Honda, Maruti Suzuki and Toyota each have two models that rank highest in their respective segments.

Honda Brio ranks highest in the upper compact segment and the Honda City ranks highest in the midsize segment. Maruti Suzuki Alto ranks highest in the compact car segment, while the Toyota Etios ranks highest in the entry midsize segment. Of all these segment toppers, Honda Brio stands out with the least problems amongst 100 cars.


The study, now in its eighth year, measures problems experienced by original owners of 30- to 42-month-old vehicles in 169 different problem symptoms across nine vehicle categories: vehicle exterior; driving experience; features, controls and displays (FCD); audio and entertainment; seats; heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC); vehicle interior; engine; and transmission. Overall dependability is based on the number of problems reported per 100 vehicles (PP100), with a lower score reflecting higher long-term vehicle quality.

For a considerable time now, every time you think GM, you hear: bankruptcy, recalls and CEO testifying before Congress.

And now, this?

The wording in the article, about GM being better than Honda in the initial 90-day period makes the whole thing slightly ambiguous; I'm not too sure what and how to read into it.

But, *as a perception*, Honda still is light years ahead GM in quality. In the three years that I was in the US, I don't know one person (irrespective of nationality) who bought a new or used GM product. Despite the "all new" Buick and Cadillac ads, there seemed to be very few takers. Ford, on the other hand, is faring much well.

Although I would say that the 2015 Impala and Malibu are considered much, much better than the previous versions. Better than Accord?, I'm not too sure. I guess Honda's miserliness in offering features hurts them given how other manufacturers have scaled up, case in point GM's in-built wifi. I have a few friends working with OnStar (the car entertainment division for GM) and they say, GM is really working hard on making the car "smarter".

My Chevrolet cruze 2012 flywheel is gone in just 44000 KMS. When I search google there are many who are faced the same issue and flywheel gone within 40k-50k kms. Also heard many Chevrolet Enjoy's engine being replaced when owner faced some issue. Where is the quality ?
