This Economic Times Article confirms that the Swift is being launched on the 27th of May, 2005. With a presence in a Yashraj Film too.

What according to you, will be the on-road price of the basic version

Well, it should be around 4-4.05 lacs for the (black bumpered :D) base version. I just hope this time we see some better technology from Maruti-Suzuki rather than those relaunched-jewelery-added, nearly dead cars.

I feel the price of the basic version will be around 4lakhs.

I really dont suppose that the Swift will be launched with black bumpers or non-ac versions.

Remember that Maruti has versions of the Zen that sell at nearly 4.5 lacs on the road in Mumbai. Highway Robbery!!

agree: non a/c surely wont be launched but dunno about the black colored bumpers hope they dont launch it that way

Chances are that the swift will be priced just about in the same range as getz. Although maruti could very well price it lower and walk away with a huge market share.

I walked into Sagar Maruti in Bangalore yesterday. They have started taking bookings for the Swift. The car is being launched on May 19 and if you shell out Rs. 3 lakhs, you will get onto a priority list. It seems Maruti has assured them of adequate supply to manage initial demand.
The car will come in 3 variants. The base version will be priced between 4.25 and 4.5 (ex showroom) and will have base features but will probably come with power locks and power windows. The mid version will have ABS, the high end version will have abs, airbags and the sleek looking indash CD system. the top end will be priced around 5.5 (ex showroom).
The only engine it will have is a 85 bhp one (variant of the Esteem engine).

Welcome to team bhp. Does the Basic version have body cooured bumpers. 5.5lacs is a bit overpriced i would opt for the mid version with ABS ;)

swift seems to be a competant for getz..i hope its better than getz..it would have been good if its priced slightly higher to zen..but..5.5 is pretty expensive...

The Swift would be priced between 4.5L-5L.Since its a new car being launched and not any old plane jane,Maruti would definately try and capitalise on its each aspect.The car has nearly everything a normal person would thrive for.And they know,its thier name which sells.
