Certainly good news considering the present range of products they have on offer.
But rather than coming up with a Rs. 90 lakh diesel SUV, they must consider upgrading the present prado they have. In UK, Toyota sells the prado with a smaller diesel heart, and offers the 200 series as V8 Landcruiser. Its going to be quite tough for Toyota to compete with Audi Q7 and Mercedes-Benz or BMW in this case. All the three brands are strong luxury brands and Toyota is not a strong brand in that segment.

But Toyota will have a bigger heart and more power as compared to all the three brands. I hope Mercedes brings in its diesel V8 and Audi also comes up with its V8 diesel Q7.

As of now Toyota will have a heart advantage over others, but the competition has got better luxury image.

About Camry, in US they upgraded the engine to 2.5 ltrs. Toyota must bring in this motor in India. They can also consider local production of this car, then they can compete with Honda better.

The new LC200 doesnt look good at all, with that bulbous front it looks clumsy.
Toyota should focus more on getting the Fortuner in the market as fast as possible and a c-segment sedan to counter the City.

Modified LC here :D

@ Vinaydas , most of the info given in that link seems a little hard to digest and some are totally incorrect.

That would be a dream come true/

Well, it would be great if Toyota starts to sell 200 series Land Cruisers here officially, but why are not they offering it in any of the other South/ East Asian markets, save for Brunei, the Philippines and Pakistan?

I'm now starting to have doubts whether the entire issue of Diesel LC was confused with a probable launch of the Prado Diesel.

I fail to understand Toyota's reluctance in producing / assembling cars in India. When Merc / BMW / Audi can assemble their low volume cars here, why cant Toyota do it?
Or is it because they dont see India as a serious market and dont want to invest here. Price of Camry. LC and Fortuner can drop substantially if they start local assembly and consequently sales will also rise. If the Camry is available in 17-18 lac bracket, Imagine the effect it will have on sales of Accord, Superb & Laura L&K.

I enjoyed the Desert Safari in Dubai in a LC Prado. The vehicle was driving on steep sand dunes & in deep sand effortlessly and was simply amazing. The driver told me that no other vehicle is cosnidered fit for Desert Safari. Still they last for about 4 lac KMs on such a tortureous terrain.

In India LC's will hardly ever do off roading and will mostly be a status symbol.
But still newer vehicles from Toyota are welcome and atleast Toyota India seem to be waking up.

Wouldn't a 1.4L diesel engine be too small for a car the size and price of a Corolla Altis?

Well it's 88bhp and 190Nm of torque. I guess performance will be on par with Laura/Octavia since the Altis will be much more lighter than the Skodas.

0-62mph is supposed to be around 12secs.

Its not true.LC 4500s are the favorite ones for desert tour agencies. but Nissan Patrols rule the dunes.Especially the SWB 2 door ones.
LCs (automatic) run for 2 lacs trouble free.with little overhauling it will go for a couple lacs more.

The desert safari that I was in was pretty much 90% Land Cruisers.

nothing worse than having a vehicle failure 500 kms from the last human settlement.
thats why toyota's prevail. Nothing i mean Nothing beats bullet proof reliability.

what toyota should do. make camry ckd and LC also ckd. and pit that against the accord and x5s and Q7s. sporty carolla is cool too.
