all said and done, manual or automatic, sedate driving or aggro driving, keep the engine purring between 1500-1800 rpm in whatever required gear as per your current speed and thats how you'll get the best mileage ever out of your car. And yes, one more thing, mileage jumps bigtime in between 55-65 kmph in a normal passenger car, and then dips even bigger time post 80 kmph.

there, no rocket science, i guess. (pay a little extra for that tacho, and you will end up spending a lot less on your fuel)

Forget respectable, going by the FE others are getting right now, you're pretty much in the hall of fame !!

I did that already. He says he does a full to full FE calculation. He seemed to be confident of the same..

Hey guys, its very sad to here that, most of the cars are getting such horrible FE.

My OHC AT is giving around 9-10 KMPL, which is quite ok for me, as its an 1.5 L engine.

IMO its better to put CNG kit in those i10 AT. FE will increases & it CNG is cheaper by almost 50%.

CNG kit, will definitely help you out from shock.

is it possible to put a CNG in an i10 , has anyone done that ..?

You have by mistake put it as 'upshifting' when you meant 'downshifting'.

This is just about what you can expect on an i10 Auto.

I have an i10 Sportz Manual and have done 15,000 kms till now. I get around 11 to 12kmpl in Bangalore's city traffic WITHOUT A/C, nothing more. On highways have managed to get around 15, again without a/c. This is one aspect of the car i do not like. I feel the mileage is below par.

Very surprising. My wife's Santro AT gives between 10 - 11 with A/c in city with thicker tires.

No, it uses a wet clutch similar to VW 1gen 6 spd DSG. I am refering to the NHC by the way.

Spoke to other i10 owners as well and they all report lower FE than the santro for manuals as well. I guess Mr. Wilson from Shahrukh Khan's Hyundai ad was right after all...!

The ANHC uses the 5-speed auto of the Civic and not a CVT!

My first tank gave me a FE of 6.7 Kmpl. However my drivings conditions were as follows:

- AC thermostat on a full cold setting. Blower on 3
- Plenty of sitting in the car with the engine idiling and AC on (about 50 mins)
- Extremely dense traffic. Just 20 odd on free flowing roads.
- Learning how the transmission shifts

Will post more once my second tank of gas gets done.

It is strange to know that i10 is giving <10 for most members. Is it 100% AC, 100% city or some combination. Any way the FE seems quite low for my comfort. From my experience, there is not much of a difference in FE between a new car and a run-in car.

What has been the result of all that rewriting the laws of automotive engineering and spending US$400+ if the car still trails the FE of bigger engined Japanese cars.

These are very low figures. Something seems to be wrong either with the car or your driving style. Switching off the engine at red lights will also help.

After completing 2350 kms. my Altis Auto shows a combined FE of 11.1 kmpl. This includes a 600 km trip to Rajsthan interiors & back. Out of those 600 kms, only about 250 kms could be described as highway, rest was horrible roads and crawling speeds in villages and small towns. Still this 600 kms. run gave me FE of 13.85 kmpl.

Another 400 km trip I undertook was from Noida to Roorkee and back. While the roads were slightly better than Rajsthan, horrible traffic and jams gave a low lower FE of 12.45 for this trip. All above figures are with AC on all the time.

Another full tank done. Still 5.5 average. Total kms done 700.
I've exchanged the car with dad and will drive it for a month (i normally drive 18odd kms/day) and check the FE again after that. 1st service is still pending.
This is frustrating.
