Is the Magnum going to be stopped after the Cruze arrives? If so, then this is something like a stock clearance sale.

Magnum is surely going to be relegated to the background once Cruze arrives.

So one is better off buying the Cruze than the dated Optra.

Its basically transferring the huge discounts of the Optra and adding it to the actual resale value of the used Opel. The trick is to try and negotiate a plump discount from your GM dealer without mentioning your existing Opel (Will be a bit tough for existing Opel owners since they take their cars for service at the same delership, try sending a friend/relative). Once the final discounts are in place then ask them for the advertised purchase price of the Opel. They will easily cry foul and fall back from the deal but at least one gets entertained watching them do this.
This is the problem with GM, they put all their focus on various types of mockery in selling a car and mush lesser on the actual car or customer.

Is it? I am under the impression that Cruz is a competitor of Civic and Corolla Altis...

I don't think so,it difficult for GM to take over Toyota & Honda as far as they suffer from poor resale & A.S.S

Cruz can take over other rivals in terms of features or Bhp but not truly to what we think off.

Some one with Opel can actually use this and get a decent buyback, but I wonder how many Opel customers would be there wanting to buy an Optra.

For some, poor A.S.S is the lack of service centers at every nook and corner of the city. For others who don't have to fear about their cars breaking down so often, the no of service centers around is not an issue.

I think this is part of their brand cosolidation strategy around four brands, Buick, Chevrolet, Cadillac and GMC. So yes, if you "miss it, regret it".

AFAIK, the exchanged prices offered, especially for the Astra are better than some of the owners are getting in the market. Most Astra owners with 1997-98 vintage are getting about Rs 1 lakh for their cars (if and when they find a buyer) while GM is offering more. but as already mentioned, most Astra owners have upgraded to Lauras, Accords, Mercs, BMWs. (Remember that it was one of the first "luxury" cars around, along with the Escort).

I would say it as a smart marketing move to cash-in old opel customers..

I hope they would not offer something of this sort for Daewoo customers
