Chevrolet at the Auto Expo 2010

Americans are born showmen, and Chevrolet is no different. The Chevy pavilion felt like there was a party going on! Without doubt, one of the best displays of the Auto Expo 2010.

Chevy Cruze from the World Touring Car Championships:
  • Chevy entered the WTCC, one of the only three FIA World Championships, in 2005.
  • The Cruze WTCC is developed by UK-based Ray Mallock Ltd (RML), one of the leading world specialists in Touring, GT and Rally cars.
  • It won 6 races in the 2009 Championships, including 2 on the new street circuit of Marrakech (Morocco) and at the grand finale in Macau (China).

The Chevy Volt Plug-in Hybrid:
  • This car covers the initial 40 miles / 64 kms on pure electric power. Apparently, most Americans drive lesser than this on a daily basis. If your commute is longer than 40 miles, power comes from a 4 cylinder petrol from the 41st mile onward. The battery is charged via a regular sized power socket.
  • A 16 kWh, T shaped Lithium-ion battery pack powers the electric drive unit capable of meeting full vehicle speed and acceleration requirements.
  • The Volt’s “Efficiency Meter” in the digital instrument cluster gives the driver real-time feedback on driving efficiency.
  • The heating and cooling system has three efficiency modes, while activating the Volt’s “Green Leaf” button provides access to vehicle Power Flow, Charging and Energy information. The driver will be able to set the charging schedule inside the vehicle or remotely, based on time of day or cost.
  • The Volt comes with audio and visual cues to alert the driver when the car powers on, off and when charging is activated.
  • Will be launched in the United States later this year.

Of course, the Beat was the center of attraction and also had many live performances around it:

Chevy tries to revive a dying Aveo with a CNG variant:

Features of the Aveo CNG:
  • Sequential Injection kit with precise control of fuel delivery through electronic injectors ensuring efficient combustion.
  • Minimal deterioration in performance in petrol mode.
  • Hardened Valve seats and Anodized pistons are used in the proven 1.4L VGIS petrol engine. This ensures no engine damage or reliability issues on CNG mode.
  • Minimum service requirement owing to advanced electronic operation.
  • Reworked suspension that leaves the ride and handling unchanged after CNG kit fitment.
  • Will come with a 3year/ 1,00,000km standard warranty.

The Captiva Xtreme:

Whats new:
  • A New Front Bumper.
  • Electric Sunroof.
  • Sporty Red & Black two tone interior trim.
  • Black Bezel Headlamps.
  • Smoked Lens Tail Lamps.
  • Based on the 2.0 VCDi LT variant offering Front Wheel Drive and Manual Transmission.
  • Limited Edition "Xtreme" logo on the rear.

The Captiva / Cruze powerhouse:

It seems that not only the market, but even Chevy chooses to ignore the Optra now. The Magnum was tucked away in a quiet corner of the Pavilion.

Note that when the car is offered for sale this will probably be different.

The current (ie testing / prototype) e-sparks have a full load of li-ion batteries which enable them to run a 200km distance per charge.
However, batteries = more weight and much more $$.

A good compromise will be reached between price, weight and km range before the car goes on sale. My guess is a range in the double-digit kms.

Good Pics GTO and Rehaan!!
I feel they would have brought Tahoe or suburban for display along with Camaro.

It seems NFS Shift are played by kids using camaro

OT.I am now playing NFS Shift and the interior is almost same as the real one and when you drive in that mode you feel that you are driving the real one.

Nice pictures guys. Very impressive display by Chevy at the Expo. The Autobot Edition Camaro looks awesome but the interiors are pretty dull. Did any of you try those driving simulators? I quite liked the Volt. If our infrastructure is in place this is a good car for India if priced right.

My question is the same as Mpower: Any info on the Cruze AT and the petrol variant?

well, it was quite expected that there would a model revision of the Aveo. Its quite disappointing not to see any change on Aveo by GM expect the CNG version. Any update from GM on that ?

wow, cruze and camaro seems to have attracted the most in GM stalls.Looks fantastic.Sad to see magnum kept aside quitely. No news of all new Aveo Uva launch, i thought they might bring new face of Uva here.
Spark electric seems good and promising, lets see how they price it and what range it covers in actual condition with occupancy.

After a long time GM seems to be doing every thing right in the indian market. Chevy's e-spark is sure gonna spark interest in
indian consumers who have to do city commute to the range of 40 to 40 km every day. Even if the range is decreased to only hundred odd km it would be nice.

Camaro sure seems to be a show stopper. Barring Tata only GM has come up with something exciting this year.
Japs and Koreans have put on a dull show so far, a result of global recession?
