Maruti 800 (Completely)
Hyundai Getz (Completely)

snapshot from site.

Quote:
The cars joining the once-upon-a-time iconic car Maruti 800 are Octavia, Fabia (petrol), Tavera, Sumo Victa, Palio Stile, Ikon, Lancer, Pajero, Ambassador and Indica V2 that will not be sold in 13 cities across India. However, the ageing Hyundai Getz will soon be discontinued completely
Fabia, ikon, lancer and indica too? Not sure if this would be true. May be manufacture will start working on this I guess.

Shocking that Skoda hasn't reacted to this yet.

Ambassador! this means government babus will have to opt for other cars, may be some of the modern sedans (more expenses to the government?).

I think manufacturers will work on this to get their cars BS4 compatible. They may also add some new Emission Control Devices and Catalytic converters to lower the emissions.

I am not sure that Getz will be discontinued as its mainly exported outside India especially in Europe. About 60% of Getz Manufactured in India are exported if the car is not BS4 or EURO4 compatible the Hyundai will lose its main Export Profits. So I think they will add new engine or improve the current engine to be on top in European Market.

I doubt about Amby's exit since it was made BS4 compliant few months ago as per what HM sales rep told me while I was discussing around BS4 on Pajero.
And Pajero - I have the same doubt since I was told about making Pajero BS4 compliant.

PS - Amby might exit due to HM exit (as of now roomer, I think).

Prem.

From the same website :
"
Meanwhile, General Motors [ Images ] vice-president P Balendran said the company will temporarily withdraw its utility vehicle Tavera [ Images ] as currently it is not BS-IV compliant and will be upgraded later.

SkodaAuto India senior general manager (sales and network development) Ashutosh Dixit said the company is working on to upgrade its premium sedan Octavia to meet the BS-IV norms.

I doubt if Octavia will go. The diesel is selling well for Skoda and the petrol I suppose is the same as in Laura. And for Fabia, they might plonk in VW 1.2 engine. Just a guess.

Similarly for Tavera, Gm gets a chunk of sales from this car. Tavera is what brought GM back from the dead. I doubt if it will be killed.

Fiat has mishandled palio and the end has been announced. I will be amongst those who will miss the 1.6.

Ford should axe the ikon. Now that the Figo is out. I probably assume that higher variants of figo will be announced once Ikon is out of the picture.

Lancer petrol is not given a price on the Mitsuibishi website but the diesel is still there. Sad news. The lancer needs to go, Cedia priced down and the new lancer launched. Pajero should be axed too but everyone knows of HM policies. :P

I have recently got an update that the Ambassador stays and is getting BS IV certifications soon. The source also added that a Common rail might be in the pipeline. which I highly doubt.

PD engine will be discontinued in the Jetta and from here on it would come with the Passat CRDi diesel, which is Euro 4 compliant.

Fabia P is not going anywhere. The Autocar reporter is talking without all facts.

The new Chakan assembly plant was setup like a few months ago only, primarily for this car. And the Fabia petrol model sales are far more than the diesel.

They will tune the engine for BS4 norms and continue selling that.

Not sure about the Octavia P though but its hard to believe that even this may be phased out.

I think even the Ikon may not be affected.

Getz may give way to the i20 fully and gradually.

And didn't the amby get the TC to make it BS4 approved car?

how come getz is going to be stopped while with the same engine Santro would continue? And similarly why would Ikon stop with the same engine as Fiesta? And why would Fabia P stop while the same engine derivative would sell in Polo?
