I can see a black S600 in the background in one of the snap. Is that the same S-Guard or another S600? If so please post the photo in respective thread.

Dippy: How was the event? Is it a miss for me?
Thats the same S guard Hani, which was there at the auto expo. I didn't click its snap.

Well it sure looks good. However, to be honest the side angle view, especially of the rear portion near the trunk looks lame. How come the rims are AMG with no AMG printer on it? I mean, I always thought that AMG rims carried the name and the logo of AMG as well.

If you look carefully in one of the pics you can see AMG written clearly along the alloy rim.

Thats a bit sad for a car costing 54 lakhs. These are the kinda specs you see on an Accord V6 costing nearly half the price.

The accord does not come in a coupe varient and carry the three pointed star . One more reason for the Germans to milk the Indians.

Anyways its a nice looking car and with the AMG style wheels it looks killer. Great pics Dippy and Sid india. The Delhi normal cars were the ones i wanted to see as they will be on road. The wheels could have been better, to look different. The price is ok considering the coupe but still would wait for the convertible.

@ Sidindia which vintage car is in the cover?

Internationally the E-Coupe is a replacement for CLK class right?
I always get confused between their models, like CLS, CLK etc.

Cheers

It was a typical Merc launch event with a glamour touch. Nothing special that you missed really.

I asked them about the convertible. No plans for a launch anytime soon but you never know.

The E- Class Coupe....is actually a C Class underneath!

Fantastic coverage of the new E-Class Coupe Dippy. Great work

Incidentally, I was reading the June '09 issue of Car India yesterday that carried a TD report on the new E- Class Coupe. A few excerpts from it

" Well, as this car is called the E-Class Coupe you probably think you're looking at the coupe version of the new E-Class?

Understandable, but you're not. It's actually a C-Class underneath.Anyone old enough to remember the C123 and C124 back in the '70s will recall they were the first E-Class coupes.

The new coupe has near identical wheelbase, track and width to a C-Class. It's 120mm longer than a C-saloon but a full 170mm shorter than an E-saloon, making it a strange hybrid of the two and putting buyers in the position of paying E-class cash for C-Class technology ! "

Yes Hiren, the e class coupe is a replacement for the CLK. Here is what Car India says -

" In 1997, Mercedes changed tack and launched the first of two generations of bespoke mid-size coupes based on a C-Class chassis and badged CLK. And now here we are again with that same idea, but wearing a different badge : E-Class Coupe "

I also did a bit of googling and found this :-

2010 Mercedes E-Class Coupe is based on W204 C-Class Platform

"Speaking with Wolfgang Bremm, E-Class product manager, Automotive News has confirmed that the 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe is in fact based on the C-Class platform, not on the E-Class after which it is named. This is the very same C-Class platform officially called the W204. Renaming the car that replaced the two-door CLK as an E-Class is interesting to say the least, but it follows Merc's previous production of basing the W209 CLK on the W203 C-Class platform."

I guess they would see the coupe response and let it settle into the market and in the next year bring the convertible here. Keeping my fingers crossed and hopeing this is their game plan.
