buy a new merc.. forget about 10lac cars
finally its what suits your personality.
those looking for a mercedes wont think even once about 10L cars..
those looking for 10L cars will only dream of owning a merc one day..

these are 2 different categories.. which one is you??

As most of the other guys mentioned, buying a Merc makes more sense. Even after 5 years it will be better that other 10 lac car that you buy. If are worried about depreciation or higher maintenance then you can probably use the car for 2 more years to utilize its full value.

When I am going to have the capacity of owning a Merc, I shall buy Merc(or any other car in the segment).

But talking purely on economical front:
Buying 5 cars every year, you would lose less money than owning a Merc for 5 years.
1. Maintenance costs are more.
2. You get around 50% to 60% of your car(Merc) value after 5 years, thats around 20L to 25L. On the other hand it could be 80% of your car(ANHC) if you sell it in one year, thats around 2 L per year implies 10L only!!!

Special cases, like me would also be inclined to buy couple(or more!!) of W124s instead!!!

Seriously bro, is there really a question here worth opening a thread for?
I wanted to ask the same question earlier this morning but refrained from doing so..

There are a few discrepancies in the OP's posts - in first it seems this is an advise that is being sought; in second, it is mentioned that this never has happened; third is icing on the cake - posting pic of ex-car without bothering to mask the registration number!

Second request to the mods today - please do the honors..

PS - first request was for a thread which I had created a few days ago for an existing topic.

Wonder why a 2.5L car every quarter or a 5L car every 6 months was also not considered.

I am sorry but i dont think can really answer these question for you. Also changing a car every year just does not make sense whether its a honda city or swift! Go in for a second hand Accord/Laura/ Camry. If u don't want to loose too much money while selling them off

PS - I like the way you think ;-)

Option 2 only if you have money to burn, and time to waste.

If you like changing cars so very often, rent / lease. That'll work out way cheaper. BTW, you are the perfect candidate for this thread of mine. Spend some time going through it. You'll soon buy an S Class (with the money saved) and use it for a couple of years as well

I know people who are using their Mercs since past 10+ years with more than 200K on odo and more without any major troubles. Mercs or Bimmers are built to last but we need to take care of her like a baby. Many changes of 10L cars may be exiting on first few days but if you have a passion for a Merc, no alternatives

Besides we're too sentimental to buy a car and sell it so soon - heck we treat our cars like family members

So in this context, Merc for atleast 7-8 years.
Two thumbs up to you on that!

Interesting poser.

For those who varied the time line of Merc from 5 to 7/10 the obvious flaw in their reasoning is that it could well be 2/3 years for the 10lac counter part.

I like the idea of camary (throw in middle level 20 lac options.) every two years.

Underlying question being "Where is the optimisation on VFM and features curve?" Each individual may have slightly varying choice point given size of pocket, needs (perceived more than actual) etc. etc.

Some additional components in to the cocktail:
- Driving or Driven
- What is your norm Traffic jams or long drives
- How much many miles odo eats up every year
- One car on many in your garage

Me : I'd keep many (specialists?) in my garage than one uni-purpose vehicle.

I think a car (engine) will start showing its true colors only after some 10K kms on the odo. So if you buy a new car, use it for a year (say 10K on the ODO) and sell it, the only advantage is for the person who buys it from you. He gets a well maintained one year old car for a good price. You will lose, both on economic front and also the time spent on buying a new car. Totally waste. Buy a Merc, service it properly and be happy for 5 years (may be more). That is what I would have done if I had the option of buying one.
