why don't you agree to the point that just like you have your opinion Manu sharma(or others) has his opinion.

Where is this point about opinions disagreed?
What is disagreed is the notion that old is bad and new is good.

That insinuation does not hold water. There is no superior (nor inferior) opinion.

Again that is your assumption, so let's go along with your assumption.

Just as the Beetle was continued only in Mexico.

Same was the case with the Beetle.

That was secondary to
the practicality of a 25 mpg grocery-getter in an America of 15 mpg cars and VFM thereof.

I believe even Swift's USP is the same 'unconventional styling'. You might say that it is lifted from Mini

The Mini was born as a dimunitive 848 cc, two-door, two-box car with 10-inch wheels.
The Greek-English suspension specialist, Alec Issigonis created interior space by mounting the engine transversely and driving the front wheels, through a gearbox cum differential.

It was never meant to be and will never be a four door family car -- that's India's staple.
So ideologically India's Mini is the Maruti 800 with its 12-inch wheels, transverse engine and front wheel drive.

The following is my belief on the Swift's Unique Selling Proposition (USP).
The Indian market believes:
that small Japanese cars are more economical on fuel than the likes of the Fiats and Ambassadors that they replaced.
that Maruti has been hugely successful with its lower priced 800, Omni, Zen and WagonR and their after-sales service defined a paradigm in India.
Unfortunately the Swift is not as fuel efficient as what’s expected of a Maruti.

I agree to an extent to what Ram has mentioned about people's preceptions regarding the Swift. Had the Swift not been a Maruti. it would never have acheived the level of success it enjoys today.

Take a look at the servicing costs as well as spares cost of the Swift and its not cheaper than the others in its segment.

I have nothing against the Swift as such. Just the perceptions of the general public that i was irked with.

i beg to differ here sir, because i remember we were planning to get one toyota qualis for our office we were told that this is going to be fazed out soon with new qualis NV( which now we know as INNOVA) and we waited for it. yeah qualis was there but the co. was in process of fazing it out. the news had spread before that. toyota took their dealers to Japan to show the replacement and dealer were really disappointed at that time.

so we bought the tavera and sold it in six months.

Good and bad have nothing to do with old and new.

New need not mean better. It can mean worse!

Car designers of the present are not necessarily more competent than those of the past. The kid designers of today are no less apt to goof on design and produce a lemon as anybody in the past.

The Volkswagen Beetle was produced for sixty-six years from 1938 to 2003.
It had unconventional styling, low BHP, extremely high NVH (noise, vibration and harshness). Yet it lived the longest and holds the world record for the most produced example of a single design.
In fact the market's goodwill for the old one, saw a modern one designed to exploit the old one's features.

Would it have done so, had the manufacturer listened to the first user to say, "it should have gone from the market 5 years back"?

:)
i got it Boss, you are right and seems like you want to be right always.

So you win.

and thanks siva bro...

Guys,

Did any one read this today?

Finally, the esteem production is stopped and "swift sedan" will replace it.

Is it in the times..? I didn't see any such news. what's the source?

:) where did you read? please get some more info and let us know.

I read it in "Sakal" - a marathi news-paper.
I haven't checked times today...

But generally marathi papers are late in reporting business/auto news so I guess it must be out in english press already...

Here are some news items about the new "b e a u t y"

Maruti Swift Sedan coming next year?

A couple of my friends in Maruti say its a "looker" , ie its a good looking car. Launch early next year. Lets hope for the best :)

yes i had heard about this change of events but as far as i believe esteems were fazed out a while back and suzuki was decideing on what to replace it by. there were talks of the SX4 being that replacement but now it is evident that the swift sedan is getting the place.
the car of what i have heard does look stylish but i would have to see it in live to decide that. hope they bring it with a better engine.

Would anyone like to share ideas on how the looks could be bettered?

We have not seen the real car, so its pointless to mod what is primarily our imagination and not a solid baseline.

ram maybe if the roof is made a little roundish to match the bonnet and the rear maybe it would look better than right now with the flat roof. i would agree with 1100d here but let us feel happy with a better design for the car and see if suzuki matches our expectation. hope you agree with me.
