My Uncle just booked Swift DDIS Ldi for 10000 (Popular Trivandrum), waiting period is four months. Waiting period for other diesel hatches we saw : Figo (two-four months), i20 CRDI (five months), VW Polo (six months), Fiat Punto 75/90hp (both 10 days)

Confirmed rumour (If there is anything like that) is that the Swift 2011 will be launched by Feb 2011.

At least Whitefield Bimal (two friends have booked) in Bangalore has started taking bookings for Swift (Zxi) as for the "new model" with a booking amount of INR 10,000/-.

even at my side here the booking amount is 5k from at least 2 years.

who will not want interest free 50k for 4 months.
& if they sell (book) approx 10 swifts a month they get to use 5L rupees interest free.

This 50k thing is created by dealers. It was never a rule as such.

I booked my Swift VDi on 25-Feb-2009 with a cheque of Rs.5,000/- when the waiting was for 6 months, just because I have a good relation with the dealer.

Also, got delivery on 18th March, 2009.

I'd been to Chowgule's in Goa in October and they were willing to accept Rs. 1000 as the booking amount for the Swift ZXI. I don't think it would be any less for the Swift DDIS. The competition is heating up for Maruti Suzuki.

interesting piece of news

I was popular maruti, chennai today to test drive the a-star automatic. It seems that swift vdi does not have waiting period and is readily available off the shelf. Has maruti ramped up the production?

I don't think its available off the shelf yet ! Probably its a color that some one has canceled and no one else wants as of now. When I booked my RED swift VDi ABS in June 2008, I got a call back the very next day that If i want a white VDi ABS, they could deliver it in 10 days ! But I choose to take my RED itself and had to wait for 4 months and had to fight for two weeks to get it at least then !

I took a i20[crdi] test drive last week at MGF Cochin and was told by the sales guy that delivery is possible, any color, in 10 days. Ford Figo too doesn’t have any waiting period here at Cochin or Kottayam.

this looks like a strategy to retain the customers and to shy away competition

I had been to VW on sunday and it takes 50-75k for the booking polo and i20 also same i guess.

Now since i20,polo and swift have the same waiting period people might pay 5k and try to find out their luck rather than blocking 50k with others.

But this audience would be only 5-15 % i guess,

BTW maruti was charging 1k for cancellation ,has that been dropped?
