Re: Charitable Drive : The 2013 Blind Man Car Rally (Mumbai). EDIT : 18 BHPians confi

This is such a missed opportunity, to do something for a noble cause and meet some BHPians from Mumbai. Unfortunately I'm driving down to Manipal on Feb 2. But guys do keep me in the loop for Mumbai events. I'd love to join in.

Suedehead and I were posting at the same time so my copied list which came after, doesn't feature his name.

The next person please add him and then yourself.
And while at it, a numbering system might help.
Thanks!

Re: Charitable Drive : The 2013 Blind Man Car Rally (Mumbai). EDIT : 21 BHPians confi

I just saw this due to a PM

Us Vintagewallahs could participate, lets see what we decide to do. We may add to the numbers for a good cause, which can be a by-the-way adder to Sunday's fun agenda.

Cheers harit

Nope, you have to register well in time as they have to arrange for your navigator. I'd say even a week before should make the cut.

Re: Charitable Drive : The 2013 Blind Man Car Rally (Mumbai). EDIT : 22 BHPians confi

Hi,

This would be the first time I would be part of an event like this.

Wanted to check a few things first before I can confirm, Now as this is an organized rally will this be covered by my car insurance policy in the event of an unforeseen circumstance (accident)?

Please do share any information you may have about this as I'm keen to be part of this event.

Regards,
Aayush.

@Persian - You do not have to find the navigator. The organizers would assign a navigator for each participant. That pairing is done the day before the rally.

Not sure about the insurance part.

But note that this is a Time-Speed-Distance Rally. So not a race. Speed Limits have to be followed to ensure that you get the least number of negative points. Overspeeding and reaching the check points before time would not be beneficial. I hope this puts to rest some of the fear of accidents.

Guys,

Out of the 100 car slots, 71 have filled up (as of last night). If you have to still send your application across, please do so at the earliest.

The documents, entry forms and a PPT are all attached in the first post of this thread, along with the contact details of the organizers. You can directly reach them for any assistance or guidance.

Please note there will be a pairing session on the 2nd Feb, where a blind navigator is assigned to each driver/car. The pairing is done by drawing of lots. After the pairing you can take your navigator on a small ten-minute drive to get used to the concept of the rally and improve coordination with your navigator. It is important that all participants attend this session as this is all the warm-up you are going to have.

There will be logistical constraints if the number of cars is significantly higher, and also for more than a hundred cars, they may not be able to arrange blind navigators too. So it would make sense to hurry and confirm your participation instead of waiting till the last moment.

On the D-day, the cars are flagged off with one minute's gap, so sixty cars would take around an hour to be flagged off. The entire rally is supposed to be completed within two hours or so (though we roamed about the streets of Mumbai last year while everyone was enjoying the closing ceremony and lunch!). So past 12pm if you still haven't completed the rally, it's better to ditch the rally and head back to the NAB for the closing ceremony.

It would be good if we all can meet up on the 2nd Feb pre/post the pairing.
