The Ritz didn't figure in the top-3? Unbelievable!

Hello,

Yes. After looking at the pictures I also felt the Ritz would be in the top 3.

Can anybody throw some light on how are drifting events judged? What is the basis / scoring scale for deciding the winners?

Thank you.

Thanks for the awesome coverage SDP!

Hard to tell from the pictures, but given all the 1 and 2 wheel-up action from Jalsa777 in the Ritz, it seems like he might have had the unfortunate problem of too much traction (ie. not enough 'drifting')?

Re: "Will It Drift?!" Event by the Super Car Club. 2nd June, 2013

Great photos but the turnout seemed a little thin on the ground to me, perhaps due to the distance of the track from most Supercar owners in Bombay.

Nonetheless I regret having not come to the event, maybe next time I'll take my RWD Tata Nano out on this track

RWD is good, but wouldn't you be worried about Nano being a tall-boy?

Anybody who was present at the event knows why the guy in Mercedes was escorted out of the event? What exactly was the issue?

These sort of events are just what we need! I say that the E46 (judging from the gifs) did a great job. The problem with most cars with regards to drifting is that their transmission is FWD which makes it real tough to get it to slide in any direction since the thrust is in the direction where the wheels are pointing to, which means the car will be back to where its supposed to be even before it slides. RWD would be the best for drifting imo.

Just these 2 online services: gifninja.com & gickr.com
and a little bit of editing of the still images.

Re: "Will It Drift?!" Event by the Super Car Club. 2nd June, 2013

Thanks everyone for the appreciation shown. It was a super fun event and I feel great to know that I contributed to bringing a smile on the spectators' faces

Thanks Super Car Club for organizing the event. Such events will provide much needed impetus to the almost dead motorsport scene of Mumbai. You have a great little track there, its fun for drifting and I feel it will also be an awesome Autocross track. I look forward to an autocross event there soon.

From a participants perspective, there is not more one can ask for. We were basically given a lot of running time and that made both, the spectators and us, extremely happy . The best part was that the atmosphere was very friendly and frank and that always makes for good events.

As already mentioned before, drifting a FWD is almost impossible, because the moment one comes on the power, the car tends to straighten itself out :(
I am actually surprised by the amount of wheel-lift the Ritz was generating. I was struggling to get it to slide.

The cars having a boot always have an advantage because they have some extra mass hanging behind the rear wheels, this tends to work like a hammer-head, rotating the car around. The Ritz is a tall car and instead of sliding, it was rolling

Here's an onboard video from my car:

Lastly, Thanks all for the lovely pictures posted here.

One more video coming your way later in the evening. That one you don't wanna miss!

Top notch driving there & a great video Jalsa

Was indeed fun watching you driving the Ritz on the edge.

It shows that the wheel up action is because of good grip from the tires, IIRC i saw your Ritz equipped with Yokohamas right ?
Strangely in my cruze (running on Yokohama dB series) they make similar kinda noise when driven hard but dont really lose traction.

Thanks again for keeping the audience entertained

My car's shod with Yokohama A-drives.
Actually, the A-drives never really screech on public roads and I love them for that. Keeps unwanted attention away

In the video, you hear the screeching noise because the track has layers on rubber on it. This makes the surface very sticky and thus there is lots of grip. Another factor is that I had reduced front tyre pressure to even further increase grip.

Oh I would be petrified of it's tall boy nature but I may give it a go next year, let's see...

Re: "Will It Drift?!" Event by the Super Car Club. 2nd June, 2013

The ANHC dude is probably running stock (175s?) tyres and thats what made him win it.
No doubting driving skills, though.
Drifting needs more than just a stock RWD. The first upgrade to a RWD car to drift would be a Limited Slip differential.
