Any news on the popular rally?
Just heard that Gill dropped out after hitting a tree.
After 1st stage,

2. Lohit urs
3. Arjun Balu
4. Vikram Mathias (Puncture, lost 50 secs)

Any more updates?

Strange. I did not notice an announcement anywhere. Probably it is only me.

Strange things happen at these events - these rallies. Once [$some] Nanjappa (sorry - cant recall his first name) came up first with no real tyre on a two wheeler. Doing the circuit with three wheels on four wheelers is of course, no news.

Got this from a news letter:

Team MRF finished the first leg of the Popular Rally of Kerala 2008 1-2, with Lohith Urs & co-driver Chandramouli leading the pack followed by Arjun Rao Aroor & Satish Rajagopal. The Team Red who had a set back when their ace driver Gaurav Gill went off the road and crashed out, took the challenge and went ahead.

Gaurav Gill was leading the rally after the Super Special Stage yesterday, but bad luck put paid to his rally today. He has suffered a minor injury on his nose, but was fine after first aid. “I really feel bad about the crash”, said a forlorn looking Gill. Arjun Balu & Kumar were the other drop out from Team MRF.

Guess so. Ashwini or something was his navigator (wife?).

And I thought I missed the publicity coz. I was travelling in rural Malabar last week. Probably, popular guys are now cautious about publicity post that PIL they had few years back - when the fuel crisis / rationing was on.

Jagath Nanjappa's wife/Navigator was Anita, And yes i saw the cars blearing at breakneck speeds through the city of perumbavoor, there we mostly balenos and esteems the occasional Gypsys and at one time there was this baleno trying to overtake and a Black Range Rover Sport Overtook it and went Ahed , The Rangey Even had some Liverys on it. Wonder what it was upto ?

One Child was Killed and 3 others injured when a car lost control and hit them. makeing this almost like a track record , that gets repeated every year(last year also a kid died) and now i think it is really good that they have taken 2 wheelers off from this event.

Actually you should not associate it with the Rally as the car involved was not competitors or official's car.

national rallies in kerala need more media coverage

i think rather than popular rally , the rally which was held at trippunithura had got a great media coverage, famous news papers in kerala reported it as mega event BTW only the deaths and the winners were anounced from popular rally.

popular rally, badly organised event, when compared to the local motor sports events in kerala. the acident and the deaths in concicutive years shows that.

most of the people will come to know about it after the final lap.

who all where the mallu drivers in the event?

did francis k.j. and his co driver royce(hubby of rimy tomy) participated?

its better to start an other thread for local rallies in keraka.

@foby- if you have the info about the rallies and when they are held, would you please start the thread? I'm very interested, but have no idea on where to find the info.
