Section #!

The last recce for Desert Storm 2010 is over. The pictures from section show the vast stretch of sand and bush country that will be tackled by the crews at night!

All Xtreme versions slots have been filed up and there is a waiting list of more than handful wanting to get in to action. Very limited slots left in Xplore category. Surprising from barely 6/ entries last time there is almost a houseful in the Motoquad and Ndure categories. Standard entries close by 15th instant.

Route surveys are over and first draft road book is due out next week to be given for on route check teams. Once this is complete we move to printing.

Any participants here who would like to detail out what preparations are underway at their end?

Standard entries closed on 15th instant. There is wait list for Xtreme category and all but one slot taken for the Ndure category. Few slots in Xplore category are open for thos who'd like to enjoy a long TSD rally with reasonable level of challenges in their car's.

New web site is also operational at Desert Storm

Desert Storm 2010-ds-event-sticker.jpg
After close of Standard Entry on December 15th all slots were taken in Xtreme category and there was a waiting list. Very few slots were left in Xplore, Ndure and Motoquad categories. Although the date of closing of late entries is January 15th only two slots are left for Motoquad category and all other slots are full. List of entries is up at event web site.

We will accommodate wait list on first come first serve basis if and when a slot empties due to any competitor pulling out.

Thanks to all for the huge interest shown in participation in the longest endurance rally of India.

I am just wondering if 4X2 cars take part in the Desert Storm ?

I took my front wheel drive car (a Ford Ikon) and it would used to get stuck even in the smallest patches of sand.

I am skeptical if front wheel drives can cover the vast expanse of sand which you have captured above.

@Mokeyboy4u: There is a category for 4x2 vehicles and it is called Xplore. The route ic challenging and does involve sand / desert driving. Though this is not same as the Xtreme route.

Sir thats what my question is how do these cars manage sand/desert driving because my experience is the front wheel drives just keep getting stuck at the smallest patches of sand !

Participate and find out. It is not just about power but also about technique. Every year we have category for 2WD cars and they do make it. Sometimes they get stuck too!
