I understand that the car is lite but still why just 200 BHP ??
Anyways if prices competitively then it might just click for toyota like the supra and celica clicked in the earlier days ..

Maybe this car is a sports car for the street. The power is sufficient for a 70mph/100kmph run. 70mph/100kmph is more than sufficient speeds in most countries across the globe. The power is sufficient for daily runs. I think they are targetting the averge joe, who would like to drive a sportscar to work but still be light on the pocket. (USA market reffered to here).

Maybe toyota did a study and inferred that only a negligible percentage of people who buy Audi TT, R8s, Z4s, Ferraris, Astons use it on a race track and that too ocassionally.

I'm going to be honest here.

It's a little disappointing. It has lost that crouched and angry, read-to-attack stance that was present when it was in concept-form. However, having said that, I'm glad they've removed that silly DRL-LED necklace. It literally looked like jewelry!

The design seems to have been inspired by several sports-cars in the same segment. The rear has a passing resemblance to the Mazda RX-8, probably due to the dual-exhausts and the tuner-style clear-chrome tail-lights. The side-profile seems to be a straight lift off, from the Hyundai Tuscany/Tiburon/Coupe, which itself, ironically, is a copy of the iconic mid-'90s Ferrari 456-GT.

The interior looks good though. Simple, effective, and sporty.

I wish Toyota had opted for a different colour to showcase the new sports-car. It just doesn't do any justice to it at all. Red, or even black would have been good. Or Lexus LF-A white, perhaps?

Honda & more so Acura in USA/Canada must be either laughing at Toyota or feeling disillusioned that they could have done so much more with their Integra's and Rsx's in North america. The 200 bhp output on this car is like the ol' k20's and b16a/b outputs. This might just be the next japanese tuning sensation for the masses who probably cannot afford an Evo or 370 Z in yankyland. Kind of what was always Honda's domain.

Finally launched and correct name too. GT86,paying homage to the 'hacjiroku'.
But how much though am a fan, little bit disappointed in the styling front. The front gone all too soft,organic,korean,squintish. The concept was all menacing and drool worthy. Surely the concept model was production feasible, ain't it?
The rea looks lot compact and definitely higher than the concept and last the important thing. The Interiors.or rather the steering wheel. even the Etios V has a far more better styled wheel. Or have they designed this one taking into consideration 'drift' usage?

Toyota and Subaru have joined hands to create a fast and affordable sports-car. For Toyota, they've been there before, with the Sera, Celica, the Supra and the MR2-MRS. But for Subaru, it's a first in many ways. For starters, the BRZ will neither be turbocharged, not supercharged. And it WILL be RWD only, and wouldn't come with an AWD version. Not even on the STI version that's on the cards for later.

Now that might come as a bit of a disappointment, considering that Subaru's most popular ingredients are turbos and RWD (even for their station-wagons!). But take nothing away from this wonderful sports-car, as there is one ingredient that stays, and that's the famed boxer-four mill that should power this car and be good for a lip-smacking 200 horses. And the trademark Subaru blue will be the colour Subaru would use to market this new sports-car.




























Subaru is expected to introduce a beefed up version of the BRZ, with the STI badge. Although there would be no turbo or AWD, expect the suspension and chassis to be tweaked for track use. Also expect a tweaked motor, perhaps a sports exhaust and intake system and possibly a re-mapped ECU. Cosmetically, there are a few changes. For starters, there are carbon-fiber front splitters and 18" alloy wheels partially hiding huge Brembo brakes. A massive rear spoiler and a large diffuser complete with quad-pipes round of the rear.

It is said that the roof will be made of carbon-fiber to ensure better center-of-gravity, a la, the BMW M3.

The interiors would also be given the STI treatment, presumably. Which would mean racing bucket-seats, alcantara, et al.

You must remember that this is just a concept.

This is fantastic. Exactly the kind of car that works well in India.

I have been keen on a sportscar for a while, but everything is too big, too uncomfortable and too unwieldy in Mumbai. I was looking to take the plunge and get something german and bonkers, but this ticks all the right boxes and should be reasonably easy to maintain.

Now to find someone who can import it into india for me...

I am not sure if they have started to manufacture it. I think it still has not gone into production. Once they do, there is a kerala based car imported, who would import the car for you on commission basis. I will PM you the name as its above my head now.

I don't know how easy it will be to import considering the fact that it is well under $40k. But it seems like a really nice car for the price. RWD, pretty good weight distribution, low CG and to top it all it looks decent especially with 19s. It's a shame we don't have an affordable 2 door RWD coupe in India. The 370z at around ~50 lakhs is a bit expensive tbh. I feel something in the 25s would do a lot better. Maybe the terrific VFM Hyundai Genesis should come in as well.
