Chevrolet has officially unveiled the 2012 Cobalt, which will be available in over 40 countries in Europe, Africa, South America and the Middle East.
As previewed by the concept, the production model has a prominent grille, vertical taillights and slightly odd proportions. The exterior styling won't win everyone over, but the cabin features a clean design with a sporty steering wheel, an analog / digital instrument cluster and 18 storage compartments. Speaking of the latter, the trunk holds a class-leading 563 liters (19.9 cubic feet) of luggage.
Under the hood, a variety of four-cylinder engines will be available with displacements ranging from 1.3- to 1.8-liters. More specifically, in Brazil, the Cobalt can be equipped with a 1.4-liter unit that develops 97 PS (71 kW / 96 hp) and 126 Nm (93 lb-ft) of torque - when running on petrol. This enables the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 11.9 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 170 km/h (106 mph).

Seems like the design cues have been taken from the Opel Vectra.

For a second i thought I am looking at a modified Toyota Etios! I like the interior, but some how i am not too convinced with the exterior. Even if they launch it here, they should launch it only in LPG/CNG and Diesel avatar.

Was this designed by their China division by any chance lol (no offense to anyone).

The rear looks acceptable but the front is a mess. Looks like a Tata Manza + Swift Dezire type design. If you all know what I mean

It would be interesting to see if this makes it to India and in what price range.

1) Its not me only who is finding a very close resemblance to Etios, a car which is given negative view for looks. Certainly, those large headlamps look from 1990 and not 2010. And the grille could have been done more tastefully. It looks like Chevy had Etios in mind, I mean an Etios for USA ( developing a cheap car for USA ).

2) We are not going to get this car mostly, and we would be getting Sail ( which is based on old Corsa that once we had ). Or mostly we will get Sonic ( which is based on GM-FIAT platform on which GP/Linea are based. Yes, the new Aveo/Sonic is based on that platform, which is what we should be getting by this time.
Aveo had looks which only the new Aveo/Sonic can carry forward, this Cobalt would need a lot of aesthetic rework.

Precisely! When I look at some of these "entry-level" cars, I wonder, if the manufacturer makes it a point to botch up the looks just to rub it in for the potential customers. One can almost hear them say "You want cheap? This is what cheap looks like!"

I completely agree with you . It will be definitely coming to India to join hands with Nisaan Sunny , Etios , new Swift sedan , Manza
Disclaimer : not telling that the cars I mentioned above are not of any good .
But then in the looks department it can still be better than the way it is now .

I remember have seen some other pic of a car that will be an Aveo replacement . That looked much much better than this one .

If black helps any bit to improve its looks.

The side and back profile looks acceptable for an entry lever sedans when you look at the competition (Desire, MAnza, Etios) but the front is just not acceptable. I hope they alter the headlights to match the tastes of the indian subcontinent.

Whatever happened to the Chevy "SAIL" which was supposed to replace the aging AVEO twins?

Re: 2012 Chevrolet Cobalt - The new global entry-level sedan from Chevy

The belt line of this vehicle seems to be too much high, it makes the green-house looks small. In fact this looks like the Chrysler 300 from some angles.
Interiors are quite decent, very Euro- spec.
The length of this seems to be close to 4500mm, that might be questioning the Cruze, though product positioning it differently can compensate.
Other than that it can be a good replacement for the Optra, if priced correctly.

Notice the wierd waist line on the doors end abruptly whereas the lower ones are more proportioned.
