Lamborghini Cabrera LP600-4 Edit: Huracan LP610-4 revealed Pg.4

Its been a long while that I've been reading articles and threads on various forums of the much awaited Gallardo replacement, the Cabrera (patented Lamborghini name) LP600-4 and thought its high time we too had a thread dedicated to the developments of this car. As of now, there are very limited facts and figures available and the production and delivery are rumored to be slated for 2013.

Some of the specs I was able to gather from different sources would be,
  • Name: Lamborghini Cabrera LP600-4
  • Debut: 2013
  • Delivery: Mid 2013
  • Styling: Taking cues from Aventador and Sesto Elemento
  • Price: Up by 5-7%
  • Bhp: 590-610
  • Estimated 0-100 KM/H: 3.1-3.2 sec
  • Estimated topspeed: 335 Km/H
  • Gearbox: Possible DTC and no manual
  • Weight: Lighter than or just as light as the LP570
  • Materials: Mostly Carbonfiber like the LP700
A rendering of the Carbrera taking cues from the Aventador and Sesto Elemento.

The Gallardo has been a spectacular success for Lamborghini and making a legend even more legendary would be quite a task for Lamborghini, and I'm sure they'll succeed as they have with the Aventador The rendering looks really good but I wonder if the real car will look the same since there have been no spy shots yet. But I'm sure the design will be anything but insane

There is speculation that the 5.0 V10 motor will be shelved for a brand new, more economical and environment friendly V8 lump, possibly mated to a turbocharger or two. Boo.

EDIT: I was hoping the Sesto Elemento would evolve into the new Gallardo replacement. Looks like the running prototype was merely a design exercise.

I am not particularly fond of the rendering, because I absolutely love the current design of the Gallardo. That said, a new lambo can only mean more excitement

Economical and turbocharged Lamborghini?
This is all Audi's fault. If someone had said this before they took over, they would have beheaded that fellow!!

It is true!

Several companies are ditching their V10s and V12s for turbocharged V8s as it will be more economical to run and would be less harmful to the environment too. BMW has scrapped the V10 in the M5 and has gone the turbo V8 route for the new F10 M5. So has Mercedes.

A turbocharged Lamborghini. Now I am not really looking forward to that. One should never turbocharge or supercharge a Ferrari or a Lamborghini IMO. It's just wrong. Those wonderful engines are meant to be naturally aspirated screamers. Not turbo-whistling/supercharged-whining V8s. Leave that to the Americans for crying out loud!

Winkelmann speaks about the LP600!

Confirmed highlights:
  • 600hp
  • Dual-Clutch Auto to replace the stone age E-Gear ()
  • No Manual ()
  • Shares underpinings with the 2013 Next Gen R8
  • 2013 Debut

In a recent interview, Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann revealed some new details about the Gallardo successor.

Speaking with Car and Driver, Winkelmann said the car will be "a clear cut" from the Gallardo. He added, "We always say that design is not an evolution but a revolution, and this will be the philosophy of the follow-up to the Gallardo."

The model is expected to be introduced next year and is slated to ride on the modular sports car architecture (MSS) which will also underpin the next-generation Audi R8. This should result in increased parts commonality between the two models - likely 15-20% more than today's vehicles.

Power will likely be provided by a V10 engine that develops approximately 600 hp (447 kW / 608 PS). It could be connected exclusively to a dual-clutch transmission.

No turbocharged V8! Yayy! Good to see that Ferrari and Lamborghini aren't going the eco-friendly way with smaller displacement, force-fed engines.

Just a matter of time. Emission norms etc. are getting so strict that eventually they will HAVE to downsize. Sad but true.
IMO, the NA V12s from the Aventador & Berlinetta could well be the last pair of NA V12s we see from the respective companies in road-legal cars.

That might very well be the case. But this will also mean better force-fed technology. Current turbocharged engines, I'm told, have hardly any lag and feel linear in their power delivery. Something good always comes from a trade-off, I guess.

Yes the lag is being minimized further as technology progresses but fact remains that the lag is very much there, no matter how much it is negated.
As things seem today, looks like we would have to wait for substantial time for a zero lag situation.
But i can tell you from personal experience that a good turbocharged engine mated to a good double-clutch or manual and the lag really is hardly there. Its fun !

Update::

Source
Quote:
The Lamborghini Gallardo will turn 10 next year so it’s time for a proper successor, not just another special/limited edition. It will get a new bull name and is expected to borrow some of the technology that the Italian automaker developed for the Sesto Elemento.

It will have a naturally-aspirated engine without hybrid technology and will be offered without a manual gearbox. Lamborghini’s commercial director Fintan Knight recently revealed to CarAdvice during the Australian International Motor Show that there is still room for a rear-wheel drive version, adding that the car will be launched “sometime in the future”.

Lamborghini has refreshed the Gallardo lineup recently by introducing the LP 560-4 facelift, the LP 570-4 Edizione Tecnica and the 2013 Spyder. Since these updated models will be out in about a month or so, it’s safe to say that we won’t be seeing the successor of the Gallardo before the middle of next year.

Gallardo Production Ends!

Lamborghini has announced that they are pulling the Gallardo out of production and will be unveiling the replacement later this year.

The Gallardo has been their most successful car ever, selling more than 10,000 units in its 10 year lifespan. Whatever is replacing this car has got quite some shoes to fill in.

Can't wait!

Simply stunning...If the actual car turns out anywhere close to this rendering then Lamborghini has outdone itself with a master piece. I for one would definately aspire to own one in future.

Sorry to say this, but that render looks a little disappointing and doesn't look properly put together at all. The rear is just a mess. But I hope all the elements depicted in that render are retained in the Cabrera, especially those Sesto Elemento style triangular cuts on the bonnet which look positively mental!
