Heehee... Actually Yahama first started with musical equipment and then they went on to motorcycles (in the middle they did this airplane stuff during world war) and now they are one of the leading motorcycle manufacturer but why haven't they thought of manufacturing cars?
when yamaha can compete with honda and suzuki why not in cars? I heard that the only car they manufactured was the Toyota 2000GT (the one in old james bond movie with joint venture with toyota) and after that they never did any. so, I was wondering why not? wouldn't it be "COOL" to own a yamaha car?

Yamaha people might have thought that rather than being another company in four wheeler market lets be the best company in two wheeler market.

For the record, Yamaha did supply engines in F1 but was not successful.

They just celebrated their 50th anniversary here in sydney...and chartered out one of our vessels...big money spent i might add..

if it makes any difference they do make powerful quads...

they also make outboard motors for boats...

Correct me if I am wrong. Isn't the Ford Fusion 1.6 engine originally designed by Yamaha? Yes. I am one big Yam fan and would like to own a Yam car if they produce one.

Its always best to stick to one's core competencies. Yamaha would have understood that much better. It might be better to hold on to one bird in the hand than to go after 2 in the bush.

Perhaps in India, they can try to make cars cause their brand value in Bikes in the Indian market has been shattered. One person who visited the faridabad factory for training told me that inside officials have confirmed that they are not committed to the Indian market anymore. India is an export manufacturing base alone for Yamaha. Are we fools to think, that Yamaha cant make a bike to compete with the pulsars and ZMAs?? A revamped RX with better performance can just blow the so called "definately male bikes" to smitters.

They are just not committed. Simple answer to why we havent seen any great bikes from Yamaha after RX series. Anyone has a contradicting answer??

The did make an attempt back in 1992 with their concept car that was suppose to go in production in 1994... but dont know what happened!

Do a search on Yamaha Ox99-11 you will find a lot of information - the specs on this car are pretty impressive (3.5 liter v12 - 0-60mph in 3.2 sec) and the price tag back then was a wooping $800k

This seems to be true for Americans, and untrue for Japanese

Example... Ford, GM, Chrysler for cars and trucks no bikes
HD for only bikes, nothing else... Core competency is an american management term..

Hitachi, semiconductors to earthmovers.
Mitsubishi, again semiconductors to airplanes
Yamaha, electronics to motorcycles.. many more..

actually at a recent Toronto auto show I saw a MUV designed by yamaha at their stall. Interiors were very spartan and the seating was for only 4 people. I think it was just a concept vehicle based on their golf cars.

Well, they dont make cars but they do design/make the engines that go into some great cars.

Toyota Supra
Toyota CelicaGT/Lotus Elise
Ford Taurus SHO V6 (1988)
Ford Taurus SHO V8/VolvoSUV
Ford Zetec 1.25

They also do a lot of engine design work for Toyota and Ford that is really hush! hush!

Why Yamaha doesnt maks cars n Chervolet makes bikes?

Take Santro Engine n fit it in yamaha's bikes (like the BMW V8,) There u go Yamaha's makes a car (If Yamaha ppl do the job).

Sounds really dumb, right But nowdays , ppl r putting cars engine into bikes , n bikes engine into small cars (like the beetle with a busa's engine), also it will take some years to learn about cars n then start producing them n ..... , where a huge investment is required. Im proud of Yamaha's stuff, their bulit, their bikes, n also the music intruments( im not sure theyr both the same).
Somtimes , things r better in what they are.
