BMW is ready to start yet another segment in the form of 2 series.

The 2 series will be available in the following forms;

The coupe(F22) ;

The 2 Series models will be built on the same RWD platform as the current 1 Series hatchbacks (F20/F21).

SCHEDULE;

The 2 Series will begin production in November 2013, as a 2014 model year.

The 2 Gran Coupe will make it by around 2015 though and is expected to compete with the CLA & A3 sedan.

So this means, the (now discontinued) 1M Coupe will really remain as a one-off wonder from BMW.

It is simply gorgeous & aggressive at the same time & with the competitors in mind i.e. Merc CLA & A3 sedan this should make it to India too & will be priced well under the 3 series

I'm guessing the new 2-Series was conceptualized purely to take on the new (stunning) Merc CLA, the Audi A3 and the Lexus ES350. Because BMW has Mini Cooper and the 1-series is only available as a coupe in most markets, there's a gap between their the 1-series and the 3-series offerings that no vehicle fills the same way the CLA will for Mercedes or the ES350 does for Lexus.

More important to most BMW fans is that the 2-Series Gran Coupe is going to offer a range of engines that include turbocharged inline-4s and normally aspirated inline-6s. With RWD and a sweet 6-speed manual and 8-speed automatic transmission, they've got a very compelling proposition with this car.

That Gran Coupe is stunning. I love the silhouette. Hope the rendering is close to the final product.

Also, the size should be just about right. Like a 80s 3 series. I have a big problem with the growing outer dimension from generation to generation. And this is true for most cars, not just BMW.

Hate to agree there owning a 3 series myself but what you said is kinda true

If these renderings come even half as close to the real thing, the 2-series is going to be a stunner! Price is right and BMW has able competition to the soon-to-be announced CLA!

This should get Audi to rethink their decision to not bring the A3 in the India. There's a market for this category and the top 3 luxury car manufacturers just can't miss out.

I agree the 2 G Coupe is a stunner.

The 2 GranCoupe will surely lower the entry level to the world of a proper 4-door German Rear Wheel Drive, where many can probably afford it. Add to that the prospect of the FTA that is going to see the light, this could be significantly be within the reach of many. Right now was having to coax myself into dreaming of the X1.
