Hi all, As per reports from IAB the Audi Q8 is confirmed but it will not be a Range Rover rival. Audi will launch an SUV, Q8, which will be positioned higher than the Q7.

“The Q8 will have its own character”, Dr. Hackenberg, member of the Board of Management of Audi AG and head of Audi’s Technical Development has said.

Audi's boss Rupert Stadler also revealed that the Audi luxury SUV range could be augmented with a new model sitting above the Q7. Likely to be called Q8 it will be potentially pitched as a full-on Range Rover rival with more luxurious spec than the seven-seat Q7. Audi Q8 arriving in 2017 together with RS version.

Audi chief Rupert Stadler told a flagship crossover has been given the green light and will likely receive the Q8 nameplate.

It is believed the Q8 will adopt a five-door body style with the design being quite a departure from Audi's current crossovers and SUVs thanks to new design boss Marc Lichte who wants to differentiate it from the upcoming second generation Q7. The report indicates a sportier front fascia, smaller side windows and a more sloped roofline while the rear window will be more angled.

It will go up against the BMW X6, Mercedes-Benz MLC and Range Rover Sport and will be powered by several V6 and V8 gasoline and diesel engines, as well as plug-in hybrid and full electric derivatives, with the latter being developed as a Tesla Model X rival. There will also be an RS version powered by an uprated V8 4.0-liter twin-turbo engine.

The Audi Q8 will ride on an evolution of the MLB platform (called MLB Evo) and the lightest version will tip the scales at less than 2,000 kg (4,409 lbs). This will be possible by using a combination of aluminum, carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) and thinner-gauge high-strength steels.

I understand that Q8 will be more of a crossover like X6 but the picture indicate different body style.
It may be in a different segment all together as it will certainly not be another SUV that would be even bigger than Q7 (in competition with BMW plan for X7 ?)

Audi’s five-door flagship, the Q8 will be over five meters in length and will have an aggressive falling roof line , small side windows and angled rear window.

Prices Audi Q8 will start with about 60 000 euros, while the RS version can cost up to 110 000 euros. The main competition to the Q8 will be Tesla Model , BMW X6 , Mercedes -Benz MLC and Range Rover Sport

Audi's Q8 to Challenge Mercedes GL !

Audi's Q8 is expected to boost sales in markets such as the U.S. and China in its bid to becoming the best-seeling maker of luxury cars.

The new model would be part of Audi’s plans to spend 24 billion euros ($27.8 billion) on technology and production in the next five years. Most of the money will go to increase its lineup to 60 cars from 50. That includes the subcompact Q1 crossover in 2016, which will bring Audi’s SUV lineup to at least four.

Audi’s goal is to dethrone BMW AG as the world’s largest premium-car maker by 2020, in a three-way race that also includes Mercedes.

Audi’s first ever Q8 model has been confirmed for a 2019 launch.



Now being rendered, and described as a coupe version of the Q7 featuring a more sporty and emotional design.

The more sloped roofline of the Audi Q8 means the SUV will have less rear headroom than the Q7 and it will also come with a smaller trunk. It will be more than five meters long and will weigh somewhere in the region of 2,000 kg (4,409 lbs) for the base version.
It will obviously be based on the second generation Q7 from where it will inherit the engine lineup

Audi starts testing its SUV Q8 in Spain will be probably seen at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, the 2018 Audi Q8 will one-up the Q7 full-size SUV with a coupe-like bodyshell, more luxury, and lots of hi-tech goodies





The mule is seen in the body shell of a Q7. Built on the MLB platform, will go on sale in 2018 with an extended range of petrol, diesel, and hybrid powertrains. Some of those engine options are the new V6 and V8 mills developed together with the peeps at Porsche.

- The new Audi Q8 SUV will use the same platform as the Q7 but with a sportier angle.

- The wheelbase may be the same as the Q7, but the rear overhand is shorter (so only five seats) and the car sits 70mm lower

- To further differentiate Audi’s range, future Q models will have octagonal grilles and A cars will feature hexagonal grilles – the Q8 gets the most dominant octagonal grille of the lot featuring bold vertical strakes.

-And being the range-topper it gets a similar, full-width rear light treatment to the new A7 and its own, unique front light design split into two, with further lighting in a lower part that’s disguised as an air intake.

Another significant prime upcoming NAIAS Auto Show in Detroit will be a concept version of the future Audi Q8.

Audi Q8 e-tron concept, the production version of which is expected to be available during the 2019, and as a rival to the BMW X6 and Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe.

With only a few days away from the Q8 concept’s debut at NAIAS in Detroit, Audi's flagship SUV Q8 is spied.

Audi is preparing to jump on this rather controversial bandwagon with the first-ever Q8, essentially a more luxurious take on the Q7 with a more inclined roofline towards the rear. It’s going to be Ingolstadt’s belated answer to the BMW X6 and Mercedes GLE with the same questionable body shape that will eat into the rear headroom and trunk’s capacity for the sake of creating a pseudo-coupe silhouette

In regards to the underpinnings, it will use the same MLB Evo platform as the Q7 from where it will inherit most of the hardware. Since the aforementioned Q8 concept has the “E-tron” lettering on its front bumper, it means the Detroit-bound showcar will adopt an electrified powertrain, one that will likely be implemented in the production version as well.
