BMW has launched the all new and refined 5 Series F10.



Just like it’s predecessor, the facelift too is offered in Sedan, GT and Touring variants.
Compared to the last gen 5 Series E60, the current F10 is performing much better against rivals Mercedes Benz E Class and Audi A6.

One of the biggest upgrades include, the addition of entry level 518d (might be headed to India).
It is powered by the same 2.0L diesel heart that powers the current 520d, but a detuned version, that generates 141 bhp (as compared to 181 bhp in the 520d).
BMW 518d does a 0-100 kmph in 9.6 seconds and emits 119 g/km CO2, while delivering an economy of 62.8 mpg (22.23 kmpl).

BMW facelifts are boring. Mercedes and Audi give significant facelifts. All BMW has done here is given it the new family look.
The current BMW 520d is already on big discount, the arrival of the facelift will only fetch better discounts.

Not a very inspiring design. Please most, hurt none, philosophy at work. Might plan this as my next upgrade if they price the 518d right.

Where's the facelift? I see the exact same design. Maybe the angel eyes seem a bit different but nothing else. The only good thing about this facelift is the outgoing model will get cheaper and more affordable.

The 518d heading to India sounds like a good proposition.

With this the existing F10 owners wont complain much and their resale value will remain mostly about the same as there are no dramatic external changes.

To people who cannot find out the difference heres a key;

External;

1) New contour lines for the surround of the BMW kidney grille, redesigned lower air intakes, and extra crease in the apron

2) Tail lamps - Slimmer & more sharply contoured.

3) Xenon Adaptive headlights standard on all 5 Series models

4) Adaptive LED Headlights (optional)

5) Side indicator lights are integrated into the exterior mirrors

6) New exterior paint colors, lighter alloy wheels for all BMW 5 Series models

Interior/Features;

1) Storage compartments and cup holders in center console have increased capacity.

2) New upholstery colors and interior trim elements for all BMW 5 Series models

3) Newly-standard iDrive4.2 Navigation system with Advanced Real Time Traffic Information.

4) New iDrive rotary controller with an integrated touchpad allows the input of characters for destinations, phone numbers, and other functions within the iDrive4.2 operating system

- Luxury Line and Modern Line, in addition to the existing M Sport model.

Felt the Exterior Face lift matching the New 3 Series look as was expected. Elegant and that is fine.

The 518d Idea seems to be at cross roads with the idea of buying a BMW. Drop in power is sure to make it less exciting, implying it being chauffer driven. But if that is the case then Mercedes and Audi both are better options. BMW excels in giving a superb driving experience and this compromises on just that, then why go for a Beemer?

The Interiors though look a notch close to the Audi ones and the interior colour scheme too will grow on people in time.

Overall a good effort but for the drop in engine power variant idea - it just does not address a BMW customer.
