Elon Musk's vision for an entirely new form of transportation will be revealed to the world on August 12th. The founder of SpaceX and Tesla Motors tweeted this morning that he would "publish Hyperloop alpha design by Aug 12," and added that "critical feedback for improvements would be much appreciated." Musk has previously revealed just a few tantalizing details for the Hyperloop, which he's described as a "fifth form" of transportation — the first four being planes, trains, automobiles and boats. What Musk has said so far is that the Hyperloop would be a "a cross between a Concorde, a rail gun, and an air hockey table," and would be able to deliver people the 380 miles between Los Angeles and San Francisco in just 30 minutes, dramatically outpacing California's bullet train project, which would make the same trip in just under three hours. Musk has publicly bashed California's bullet train plans as inefficient, and maintains that the Hyperloop would be a better project for the state to undertake. He first brought up the idea for the Hyperloop just about a year ago at a PandoDaily fireside chat and said that he would provide further details on June 20th this year, but it looks as though we'll all have to wait until August to learn more about how his proposed system would function. |

This guy, Elon Musk, pretty much intends on bringing actual, usable, sci-fi stuff to end users. He's done it before with the Tesla and has been arguably successful at that. I vouch for his new project. Full chances for Hyperloop to be a big commercial success! |

Given what this guy has done with the Tesla, I would hesitate before doubting that this vision will come true. Of course, in this case, he has a mountain of red tape to drill through first. |

The way he has been able to execute on his ideas, he is getting a reputation that of Tony Stark lol:. |
We figured out how to design rocket parts just w hand movements through the air (seriously). Now need a high frame rate holograph generator. - https://twitter.com/elonmusk/statuse...28785476284416 |
Will post video next week of designing a rocket part with hand gestures & then immediately printing it in titanium - https://twitter.com/elonmusk/statuse...32852101484544 |
Yup. We saw it in the movie and made it real. Good idea! - https://twitter.com/elonmusk/statuse...98424294133760 |

Exactly my thoughts. I think he will end up doing the prototype for this and that may trigger some more interest. |

Didn't find any threads on this (allegedly) groundbreaking new form of transport called Hyperloop, designed by Elon Musk (CEO and founder of Tesla Motors and SpaceX). He claims that people will be able to go from San Francisco to Los Angeles in 30 minutes (a distance of 382 miles - 615 KMs). He is going to publish first alpha design of this project on August 12. |
HyperLoop One is also interested in the Indian roots including Chennai-Mumbai, Bengaluru-Thiruvananthapuram, and Mumbai-Delhi. The company has already submitted the Letter of Intent to India’s Union Ministry of Road Transport |
The Hyperloop concept, which was now made open source by Musk, could be a perfect replacement for a bullet train and the idea is basically constructing massive tube fitted on concrete that run between two cities. Pods carrying people will travel through these pipes at the speed of 1223.1 kmph. Magnetic accelerators will propel the pods forward inside this partial-vacuum tube |
Solar Panels on the top of the tubes and windmills on the pillars to tap energy will further reduce the operational cost. It apparently needs energy only when it begins the journey and can glide for over 200 miles on touching the top speed |
But, experts say that implementing this project in India is still far from reality because land acquisition and numerous clearances that follow could take time. The decision on cost and fare might also create a roadblock. |
