Re: Top Gear UK, Season 22 - Starts on 27th Dec, 2014

Just finished watching the Patagonia Special part one. Fine start for the series, and to be honest, nothing really remarkable or 'controversial' about it. Great cars, amazing scenery and a lot less cocking about thus far. Still as has been the case with every TG Special in the recent past, there are some contrived and rehashed bits. Next part should have a lot in terms of 'action' as Clarkson tweeted a little while ago.

And yes, post reading Jeremy's columns and explanations from Top Gear producers, I was assured that using the 'FKL' number plates gig could be a mere co-incidence. Now after watching the first part, I am unsure about it. Like at one instance, Jeremy talked about Falkland islands being part of Argentina and then goes, " I am not saying anything (makes a long face); I will not spark any fury on this trip". Since this was all said in the initial part of the trip, I am forced to believe that Clarkson or TG deliberately wanted to touch the Falklands war topic from the beginning of the show. They are seriously a notorious bunch!

Guys, from which site are you watching or downloading the latest series? Final Gear seems to be down.

You're absolutely right. Just finished watching the first part, and it was really nothing to write home about. Just a lot of driving about, very little fun. No gags either.

I just hope that they can redeem themselves in the next part.

Is it just me or is something not quite right.. these three didn't seem to be having quite as much fun taking each other's cases as before. They seem to be doing that challenge just for the heck of it.

I am in your league too. Also I found something odd about Captain slow. Cannot pin point.

He is dressed wayyyyyy too formally; I mean, why the suit and turtle-neck.

I don't count this as a TG special :P

Re: Top Gear UK, Season 22 - Starts on 27th Dec, 2014

Just watched the Top Gear Patagonia special part 1 and 2. It was definitely less comical than the previous TG specials. However, the path that they followed seemed much more difficult than the previous editions.

Regarding the numberplate(H982 FKL), I don't think it was a coincidence. Had only 1982 OR FKL matched, then MAYBE a coincidence would be possible. This was clearly meant to add a subtle joke to the journey. The end part sends chills down the spine. How the whole crew are forced to literally flee the country!

But then, when have Top Gear not caused controversy?

Re: Top Gear UK, Season 22 - Starts on 27th Dec, 2014

I watched both the parts.
James May was a bit off and not having usual fun, but towards the end of it, he seemed happier than the first part.
Though the feeling of rather boring starts to cross anybody's mind, my opinion differs a bit. This is probably the first time they have avoided any challenges or races, and the mods were rather minimal.
It was rather uneventful till almost the end and lack of civilization means they could not do much.

The end has been portrayed honestly which is also towards scary side. This could have ended with very disastrous consequences were it not for police escort provided to them.

Hoping for a more eventful and interesting/involving regular episodes. Without Clarkson, the other two cannot keep any sort of synergy alive. And Clarkson certainly did not want to create a controversy of this magnitude. IMO, the Porsche's number was just a co-incidence. Would have loved the end of this.

Re: Top Gear UK, Season 22 - Starts on 27th Dec, 2014

Now we all know there's a lot of controversy regarding the "Christmas Special in Argentina" episode of Top Gear. Was the registration number really a coincidence or a planned prank, we can't comment. But was it taken too seriously by the Argentinians, I think it was. Last 15 mins of the 2nd part does show how terrifying the entire incident turned out to be. Mobs can easily go out of control and cause uncontrollable damage. But everything ended on a safe note, so let's move on.
Mixed reviews about the 2 parts from around the globe - boring as hell, terrifying last 15 mins, people showing concern and support etc etc.
Personally, lot of driving, less of humor and pranks, the chemistry was slightly lacking, but difficult and involving terrain and great cars kept me entertained. Argentina is a heavenly place and both episodes showcased beautiful and breathtaking scenery.
Being a hardcore fan, even though the episode wasn't that entertaining (our expectations from Top Gear are always on the higher side), it wasn't boring either!
No matter what, we all are gonna watch it and enjoy the cars, the roads and of course our 3 favorite petrol heads

Re: Top Gear UK, Season 22 - Starts on 27th Dec, 2014

I thought that the 2014 Christmas Special, was rather boring.
The ONLY part of this episode I liked was the part where Jeremy narrates why the Porsche is special to him. That was very touching.

However, no more sympathy towards him for messing around with a foreign country's political/social sentiments; it's none of one's business and one must absolutely refrain from getting into such a pickle.

Not only did he cause communal disharmony, but also, because of his stupidity, the lives of 31 people were in absolute danger. And had not the police intervened, they were almost as good as gone!

Also, the trio is growing really old, really fast and their humour is evidently desperately trying to keep up with the times. Heck, even Hammond appears old and drab now.

BBC should start auditioning others now. Need more 'cool'. Just my opinion though

Re: Top Gear UK, Season 22 - Starts on 27th Dec, 2014

I quite liked the Christmas Special. Thought the location was exquisite and there was plenty of the usual TG fun in the whole show. I am yet to get to the part where the locals go after the TG crew.

The show couldnt be run by any one else besides the famous three. It just wouldnt fit with anyone else.

Can someone please provide me the link to the episode? Cuz the link provided by Marauder is giving a 404: Not Found error.
