re: 2016 Volvo XC90 revealed

The new design has given it some more better presence than older, but the new grill is not to my liking and i feel the "Scandinavian" look has lessened a bit.

Volvo's standards for safety is "wow" as usual. The fact that Volvo is going to produce only 1927 first edition cars sold exclusively online and number them individually, this must give the car a more premium, elite feel and attachment for "Volvo" admirers and lovers.

Bowers and Wilkins sound with 19 speakers !!

re: 2016 Volvo XC90 revealed

Hi,
Sitting here in Bahrain and driving a 2006 XC90, I notice that this car sits lower than the one it replaces. Looks wider too? I preferred the previous generation grille, but I guess only seeing the car in person would let us know how the finished product looks. Volvos generally have understated looks that somehow look more beautiful as time passes. I also possess a new Dodge Durango 3.6 V6, but still find the old volvo more practical to use for everyday commute. And of course, more elegant than the already classy Dodge.

That tablet sized touchscreen looks awesome. Am just wondering whether it will function well in our Indian heat. ELectronics can misbehave in extreme heat. Looks lovely though.

I only hope they have made the steering feel more positive and sharper. The old one is too assisted in my opinion. The new 8 shifter seems to be the current standard, my Dodge has it, so has the Chrysler cars (200, 300c) and Jeep. I do think they should bring Petrol car to India. I am sure petrol would be cheaper than diesel in next few years. Even if same, the cost of ownership would ultimately be lesser for petrol. Also, Volvo doesnt have a reputation for good diesels unlike ze Germans.

According to me they should not. That's what make Volvo different from others.

Just do not like the grill. Vertical grill slats just taking away from that previous sharp well rounded look.

Volvo XC90 First Edition sells out in 47 hours

Volvo's all-new SUV, the Volvo XC90, was launched just last month, and the Swedish carmaker promptly put up a First Edition for sale.

A total of 1,927 units of the big SUV were up for grabs, exclusively online, and the carmaker claims that it sold out all the units in mere 47 hours after its release.

According to Volvo, most of these units were reserved within one hour, and at its peak, seven XC90s were sold every minute.

Commenting on the sales, Alain Visser, Senior Vice-President, Marketing, Sales and Customer Service of Volvo Car Group, said, "We are very pleased, but not really surprised. The huge interest in the XC90 escalated to astronomical levels after the world-premiere last week.,

The all-new Volvo XC90 First Edition comes with an Onyx Black exterior with 21-inch alloy wheels, while the interiors feature Nappa leather seats in amber, a leather-wrapped dashboard and Linear Walnut inlays. There is also a Bowers & Wilkins audio system which takes care on the entertainment front.

The First Edition Volvo XC90 are powered by four-cylinder Drive-E powertrains. The D5 twin-turbocharged diesel engine develops 225PS of power and 470Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to eight-speed automatic transmission.

The 1,927 individually numbered cars celebrate the year Volvo was founded and for the first time in history, the company sold the cars via digital commerce. Most of the sales came from United Kingdom as the customers reserved in a total of 55 cars which will be delivered by April, 2015.

If Volvo would be interested in making a BMW X6 rival out of the new XC90, it would look like this;

^ IMO Volvo should go ahead with this

Re: Volvo XC90 First Edition sells out in 47 hours

Speaks volumes of the car in the European market.

Volvos have always been associated with utmost care for safety and is in fact one of the major USPs of the vehicle.

A video showing the integrity of the XC 90.

Re: 2016 Volvo XC90 revealed

The 2015 Volvo XC90 got off the mark in the Europen market on a very positive note and the Swedish auto marque is hoping to step up its presence in the Indian market with its widely acclaimed latest offering. According to IndianAutosBlog, Volvo’s Indian dealers have started accepting bookings for the new XC90 for INR 10 lakhs.

The new XC90 is expected to come with a lone diesel motor for India

The Audi Q7 rival would be launched in April with the deliveries reported to commence in the month of July. The publication further reports that, according to its dealer sources, around 20 units of the top-end variant will be imported initially out of which 11 have already been booked. The introductory price of the luxury SUV is pegged at INR 85 lakhs which could eventually escalate to INR 90-95 lakhs (both are ex-showroom prices).

Like any other Volvo, the 2015 XC90 will be shipped to India as a CBU which puts it at a price disadvantage compared to its rivals the Audi Q7, BMW X5 and Mercedes GL which are locally assembled. However, with a top notch design inside out, latest safety technology and a renewed appeal, the Swedish SUV looks set to make a compelling case for itself in the sub-continent.

2015 Volvo XC90 bookings have commenced at INR 10 lakhs

Underpinned by the new SPA (Scalable Platform Architecture), the full-sized crossover is significantly lighter and stiffer than the outgoing model. Internationally, the 7-seater is powered by a family of new downsized four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines with higher variants receiving hybrid assistance. For India though, only one diesel engine is expected to be on offer.

The 2.0-litre twin-turbocharged motor generates 225 PS and 475 Nm of torque which is harnessed by an 8-speed automatic transmission, distributing power to all the four wheels.

The functional interior is made up of top notch materials

The fully loaded trim will come with an array of active and passive safety features typical of a Volvo in addition to a tablet sized touchscreen multimedia infotainment system that supports Google Android Auto or Apply CarPlay, four-zone climate control, electric seat adjustment and of course, a high-end music system.

With the 2016 Audi Q7 is also India-bound later this year, the competition in the higher echelons of premium SUV segment is sure to heat up.

Re: 2016 Volvo XC90 revealed

Volvo XC90 India launch in September, loses hi-tech safety features due to its radar technology and denial of government on allotment of frequency band.

Quote:
Volvo's XC90 will be introduced in two variants, Momentum and Inscription, with easily distinguishable exterior and interior characteristics. Interior of 2015 XC90 features vertically oriented infotainment display on centre console with non-cluttery 8 buttons for functions, air-ventilated sub woofer for 12 channel B & W music system, crystal gear lever on centre tunnel and the like.

Both variants of XC90 will be driven by D5 turbocharged diesel engine dishing out 225 hp max power and 470 Nm peak torque, mated to 8-speed auto gearbox.

The engine is quite under powered with the specs so fast and based on this review, looks to be that way did driving as well.

Re: 2016 Volvo XC90 revealed

Some more details , concept though

he Swedish company unveiled the XC90 Excellence Lounge Console concept at the Auto China show, held in Shanghai. The rework of the recently redesigned Volvo SUV scraps the third-row bench and front-passenger seat in favour of two ultra-luxurious rear perches, complete with an in-console refrigerator, illuminated vanity mirror and storage tray for jewellery and whatever else China’s 1% may wish to stow out of view. In lieu of the front-passenger seat is a leather cushioned footrest, and a 17in media screen completes the cocoon-like immersion. No production plan was announced
