The dinky looks cute and very well built. Quality of interiors too looks upto the mark.

Well Maruti should try and get this to India in exactly the same manner, a 660 cc with Manual or AMT. I am sure it will kill the Nano and the EON.

re: The 2015 Suzuki Alto JDM (Japanese Market)

Is this the car that was supposed to be based on the Regina concept displayed at the 2012 expo in Japan? If so- the only similarity seems to be the headlight design.

Anyways, I like the retro feel of this new Alto. And seems to be quite spacious too!

EDIT:

Wait. More than the Regina concept- it reminds me of something else- specially from the rear. The blacked out hatch portion, the squarish design and the sharp kink where the rear glass meets the C-pillar. Reminds me of the 'Up'.

Re: The 2015 Suzuki Alto JDM (Japanese Market)

Suzuki has launched the 2015 Alto in Japan. The Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) only model adopts a newly developed platform that makes it lighter by around 60 kgs. The Japanese Alto comes with features such as an engine start/stop system, radar brake support, ESP, ABS with EBD, brake assist and hill hold control. The 2015 Alto is available with a CVT as well an auto-gear shift system. Buyers will get the option of a 4x4 model as well.

Re: The 2015 Suzuki Alto JDM (Japanese Market)

What a lovely design for an entry level hatch. Can we expect something from Suzuki for India?

Looking at the way MSIL wants to grow in future, I am almost sure that that they will have to keep up with the improvements happening in the entry level products and thus such gem of design might get an entry in India too.

I may be the only one who thinks it looks ghastly. I do get the retro theme but it looks like a retarded hatchback cousin of the Suzuki Jimmy.

Spot on. This thing hurt my eyes so bad. The only redeeming features were the interiors.

btw 4WD on this puny 660cc engine driving such a small car? Did I read that right?

LOL! I think it looks quite attractive from the side and rear. The front will take a bit of getting used to. But, given time this will look rather nice I guess.

And awesome kit. Most cars in Japan have all-wheel drive as the winter conditions are so harsh. Many of our mainstream hatchbacks come with AWD in Japan. ex: Swift, WagonR, Micra etc.

Re: The 2015 Suzuki Alto JDM (Japanese Market)

It looks very funny to me especially the grill (is there a grill or not ). IMO our good old Reva looks lot better than this. I guess Suzuki might have paid very less to designers or gave just an hour to finish the design.
Just by looking at image thought this is just concept or prototype and not the real production vehicle. But I have to digest this and believe this vehicle is on sale. I beg Suzuki not to launch this in India.

On a lighter note, I am surprised to know that many BHPians are liking this car. Common Suzuki 4x4 is for what off-roading?

That's maybe because it's a kei car (660cc) ,but I am not sure. Altos were supposed to be kei cars as per the previous generations. India though will receive the 800cc three pot. I would be glad if they launch it here with AWD,would be like a 4x4 Panda.

Nope, you aren't the only one. This one's been inspired by the Jimny and looks repulsive.

Though not a big fan of the exterior look, I'd love to see that dash in the Maruti Alto
@hillsnrains, I guess 4WD is for driving in the snow.

Re: The 2015 Suzuki Alto JDM (Japanese Market)

The leg room looks fantastic from the pictures ! Is it an illusion or are the seats fixed all the way back for more legroom at the cost of a small boot ?

The car looks too quirky for my tastes. The rear lights look like an afterthought !

Re: The 2015 Suzuki Alto JDM (Japanese Market)

The slim 'boxy' design, while repulsive, makes sense in japan's well planned yet crowded streets. Especiallly for their less well off economical families who just want a car that gets them fro A to B without getting too many scratches on the body in the process (check out the side which is completely flat tu doesnt out stick out from the body too much)

Functions over form !
