Volkswagen to develop a Polo-based SUV

Volkswagen is reportedly developing a new SUV based on the Polo to rival models like the Nissan Juke and Honda HR-V. The model in question will be based on VW's versatile MQB platform and sit below the Tiguan.

Dr Heinz-Jakob Neuser, board member for technical development at VW stated that VW would have a "minimum of one SUV in each segment". The range would extend from the top of the line Touareg to a range of MQB-based models. There will also be a number of derivatives including a Golf SUV and a Polo SUV. He added that core markets for the Polo SUV will be China, South America and Europe.

The Volkswagen group has been on a mission to add SUVs to its line-up. Be it Lamborghini, Bentley or VW passenger cars, every brand in the group is looking to expand its SUV portfolio. Volkswagen has showcased a variety of concepts, including the T-ROC and Taigun. These concepts are still under consideration and the production possibility can only be speculated for now.

re: Volkswagen to develop a Polo-based SUV

Looks like VW global agenda. But back here, VW in India should be concentrating on updating its aging product portfolio. Its high time that the Polo and Vento received some major facelifts and probably time for some more models under 10L category too. They cannot milk these products forever and crib about lowering market share at the same time.

It is high time that they concentrated on the Indian market too.
