Yes, the next gen Civic will be coming up with a lighter heart, lesser appetite and lots more Power!

"Downsized turbocharging will be the base, even for the Civic," is the quote from Yamamoto, giving an official flavor to this much hyped rumor.

A redesigned Civic may arrive as early as this year and Honda has confirmed plans to start producing the turbo engines in 2015.
The Civic is expected to get a 1.5-liter turbo four-cylinder engine as standard, along with an optional naturally aspirated powerplant.

The 1.5-liter turbo engine can deliver the power of a traditional 2.0- to 2.4-liter engine with excellent torque and better fuel efficiency, Yamamoto said.
The current Civic has a naturally aspirated 1.8-liter engine.

Bring it on! This is a 200 BHP turbo-petrol with 260 Nm of torque on tap (source). It's taken them 10 years to come up with a turbo-petrol that competes with VAG's awesome 1.8 TSI. Better be good. 200 horses from a 1.5L means a big turbo, I just hope it doesn't suffer from excessive lag.

The 9th-gen Civic was a disaster. It was merely evolutionary in terms of design and didn't match the 8th-gen's wow factor. Honda India didn't even bother with bringing it here. Lets hope the 10th-gen packs appeal:

Thats a really exciting development and wished that the Civic is relaunched in India.

Honda does not have a gap filler between the City and the erstwhile Accord.
CRV cannot be an alternative for the Civic.

Possible Civic positioning can be as below:

City(8 lacs-10 lacs) < Civic(10 lacs-14 lacs)< CRV(18 lacs-22 lacs)

I am assuming Civic can be offered in a detuned idtec as well

The Japanese are finally taking up turbo's on daily drive cars. Estimating the same 7000rpm red line and Ivtec technology boosted by a turbo. Oh boy.

I ask Honda India for one favour, please bring the hatch variant of the Civic.

Not sure if it makes sense for Honda to launch the Civic even with this brilliant new engine.

The D1 segment in India (Corolla, Octavia, Cruze, etc) hardly sells a combined 5000 units per month all put together.

Honda's own City sells more than that alone (in the highly competitive C2 segment which has a size of around 30,000 units a month).

I don't see a lot of manufacturers focusing on the D1 segment if the sales are so much lower, unless the margins really are worth it.

+1 Arnab. Honda does have a void in the D1 segment slot. The void is felt is even more after the 9th Gen. Civic was discontinued in India by Honda. Honda's problem is that it will find it difficult to fill the shoes of the older Civic which had a massive liking, particularly the design. So much that the refreshed Civic in 2009 had only slight flair of changes which cannot be made out easily from the previous model! I just hope Honda does not mess with the Civic just like how Maruti did with the Zen and Estilo.

And given that the potential of D1 segment in present market and how the Corolla is selling (and running away with the potential market), Honda must bring the Civic in ASAP!

Very right. It can be something explosive. Plus factoring in the fact that Japanese generally bring technologies in their daily drives only after rigorous testing and not like a beta product is something which is going to help Honda as well.

Not likely. Given the fact that how well the Japanese know us, this may not see the light of the day. Civic is an aspirational car for our society and Honda may not opt to destroy the aspirational value of an otherwise very successful model by bringing a hatch (read: A cheaper version).

Civic's 8th gen to 9th gen was a let down, but look how they are planning for a comeback with the 10th gen. Simply wow!!!

From Honda's official press release, "Honda Debuts Sportiest Civic Design in Brand History with 10th-Generation Civic Concept at New York International Auto Show"

“The new Civic will be, flat out, the most dynamic, the most technologically advanced and the most refined and stylish Civic we’ve ever made,” said John Mendel, executive vice president, Automobile Division, American Honda Motor Co., Inc. “In every way, this will be an epic Civic.”

Based on Honda's forward H design, the Civic will feature a longer wheelbase and lower, wider stance, the new Civic emphasizes its aggressive personality and the engaging experience it will provide behind the wheel.
Proportionally it boasts a longer hood, a shorter front overhang, a more set-back greenhouse and a shorter rear deck, lending the Civic a more athletic and "in motion" appearance.

Let the pictures do the talking;

Thanks the sickest Civic yet! I just hope that the Government makes car manufacturing viable in India without all the taxes on top of taxes raising prices to unimaginable proportions. We wish to see the Civic back in India!

The side view still looks like the Acura CL or Accord coupes. The grill is still confusing. Relative to some of their motors, the car doesnt look tightly strung.

Personally I liked this car, more than the earlier ones. It is so Civic. Bold colour, a first for it I believe.
This probably would be all that Honda has got until date. It should be good, IMHO

However, if there is a production India version of the same, it won't be anything similar. It would be a stretched 5 door version, non-tinted glass, grey coloured, and with a raised floorpan.

This one is trying too much. An average design IMHO, but I think the production version in some subtle colours might do the trick for me. As a concept- this is not upto the elegant head turner that the 8th generation was, when it got launched in India.

What about the sedan version? Will it have a different design? That sloping roofline is just too low for a 4 door.

Honda design is taking the sedan and coupe under the same platform, so its highly possible to retain the similar stance for the four door version as well.
This platform will derive Sedan, Coupe, and 5-door Hatchback body types, as well as Si and Type-R versions.

It is also noted in the report that the Civic will inherit most of the advanced technologies from the CRV, like the lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control etc.

That looks really nice.
I would totally buy that. Twice.

Just hope that they change the torsion bar on the rear to a multi link suspension.

Looks a lot bigger and i hope Honda decides to bring this to India.
I do think there is a market for a 16-20L car with the Honda badge. The Accord and Camry have moved to the 25L mark and hence there is loads of space for the Civic with the top end City costing 13l.
