Call it a global need for ground clearance or a new found love for the body type, but the compact SUV trend is far from over. In India, Maruti, Mahindra, Hyundai and Tata are among the brands that will be bringing in small SUVs over the next 2 years or so. Honda was rumoured to be working on a Brio based crossover. While there hasn’t been any official update on that story, Honda has just teased a China specific compact SUV concept that will make its public debut at the Shanghai motor show.

The concept has been jointly developed with the Japanese automaker’s Chinese subsidiaries Guangqi Honda Automobile and Dongfeng Honda Automobile. The teaser image shows the car with sleek swept back headlamps (possibly LEDs), blackened A and B-pillars, beefed up wheel arches and Honda’s “solid wing face” grille (one flowing stroke from grill to headlights) that has been seen on models like the CR-V and Jazz/Fit.

The production model will not be a sub-four metre vehicle. While this SUV is targeting the Chinese market, given how lucrative the segment is in markets like India, Honda could consider a derivation of the concept for other regions.

Now that the Vezel has been ruled out for India, something like this makes sense. Only hope that they don't pit it against the Ecosport. It should compete with the Duster/ix25.

HR-V / Vezel is based on the Jazz platform and it has been confirmed that this product won't be coming to India. What we would get is the brio- based crossover.

I would expect it to be a shortened version of this Chinese preview, so that it tucks in under 4 metres.

Apparently, this one is going to be a 7-seater SUV being contrived to rival XUV500. Ardently waiting for Honda to showcase this baby at 2016 Delhi motor show.

According to AutoCarIndia, the SUV will be specifically developed for the Indian market and will be launched in the Indian market in 2016. The company has Vezel/HR-V compact SUV for international markets, but, it was proved to be costlier for India. The Japanese maker is expected to showcase the compact SUV for the first time at the 2016 Delhi Motor Show.

According to the report, Honda Cars India recently tool their top dealers to the company’s R&D facilities in Japan. The company showcased the freshly developed compact SUV to dealers. Interestingly, the SUV will not be a sub-4 metre SUV and the company is planning to launch a seven-seat version of the SUV to rival both the Duster and the Mahindra XUV500.

Like we reported earlier, the new SUV will share the platform with the Mobilio (Brio platform). It will share the front section with the MPV, but it will get all the features of an SUV like larger wheels, skid guards and aggressive body cladding. Moreover, the new SUV is also expected to get an all-new and better quality interior.

If they use the same motors, we can be sure that it will be as spartan as the Mobilio. Just refreshing the interior is not going to work for something to look a little dominating like SUVs should.

There are rumours that it could also be based on Civic/Accord platform. Would be odd if they shorten it for India.

Honda Reveals Electric CUV With 53.6 kWh Battery Based On HR-V.


Honda’s upcoming Everus VE-1 is exclusively for China.

The VE-1 will utilize a 53.6-kWh battery pack to offer an electric range of some 340 km (211 miles) on the NEDC test cycle. Its single electric motor is rated at 120 kW (163 PS/HP) and produces 280 NM of torque.
