Re: Fiat Tipo (Egea hatchback) spied

I may be wrong, but some how I see design elements closer to the Ford Focus. Especially the side lines and the rear ?

The initial rendering in this thread has turned out to be incorrect. If you see the latest spy shots, the tail lamps are quite similar to the Alfa (Elite i20'ish) range. Focus also has a sharp drop in the roof height towards the C pillar.

That said - I think Egea hatchback will look heavily 'inspired' by the BMW 1 series, the same way the sedan looks to imitate the BMW 3 series.

Of course. My comment was based on the initial rendering. Hopefully they get the car quicker in time to market.

Re: Fiat Tipo (Egea hatchback) spied

The car looks promising. I really hope Fiat doesn't dial down fun factor with the new Tipo hatchback.

The Egea sedan is mediocre to drive based on the initial reports. Fiat has concentrated on great looks, space and very competitive pricing to attract customers.

A bit of history on the Tipo name from this link:

http://www.fiatbarchetta.com/worldlinks/tipo-punto.html

"Fun-fact: the Tipo was initially to be called "Tipo." (Tipo-punto, literally: Type-dot). But nobody seemed to notice the little dot on the name-tag! Fiat got even by releasing project "Tipo B" as "Punto""

Also, what a beautiful and balanced design the previous Tipo. was. No wonder it won the European COTY

(off topic: THIS is how to make huge front overhang look good, Figo!)

Interestingly, i found images on replacement FIAT Tipo badges. Notice the dot

Re: Fiat Tipo (Egea hatchback) spied

The 1.4L petrol will be under powered for the size of this hatch. Add to that, the 1.4L petrol engine will attract higher duties, being >1.2L cc.
Our humble Punto, when added with a 1.4L engine, top end goes to 8L+.

Even the 1.6L diesel will have the added extra taxes. Punto 90hp is 8L+ with that 1.3L engine.

It will not make sense to bring this to India. This looks better & bigger than the Punto and in no way the price will justify the product.

EDIT: Even the length exceeds 4m. It cannot be priced sensibly, thanks to the government policies.

Re: Fiat Tipo (Egea hatchback) spied

And suddenly why do you need a girlfriend for when the car looks so good

In all seriousness, I think India will see the Tipo Sedan only marketed above the linea.

We have seen the return of Linea Classic Sedan and more recently the Punto Pure. We all know that the facelifts could not mesmerize us enough as the original ones. Fiat has to launch new products and their adoptation rate might be slow. They need some offering from the stable so that the showrooms do not go empty 'if' the people do not want to shift to the new sedan. And the facelifts are not so good as the classic shapes. And so the classics are back and the "New Linea" and "Punto evo" might be under the consideration of being stopped because
1. The facelifts are not beautiful enough
2. They cannot demand premium over the classics if all they get is a redesigned bumper and some more electronic gadgets

And so the Eegea sedan will be the premium sedan in India just like Skoda Laura. And I think fiat has reasons to fear that Tipo hatchback will meet the same fate as Chevy SR-V. Lets pray to God and hope that the Tipo hatchback will follow because my-my the hatchback looks stunning.

The saloon and station wagon with 1.6mjd can be used in India as Fiats offering in the D segment. No hopes for the hatch here.

Re: Fiat Tipo (Egea hatchback) spied

Already on sale, the Fiat Tipo 5 doors is offered with the 1.4 95 bhp petrol and two diesel engines: the 1.3 95 hp (to test) and 1.6 with 120 (short even with the change to double clutch). In June, should be added the 1.4 Turbo LPG, with 120 hp.

The car is above 4m in length, there is no point in looking at the 1.2L petrol engines. This should come with the 1.4L T-Jet and 1.6L MJet; should be a fun car!
