Re: The next-gen BMW 3-Series (G20). EDIT: Now unveiled

I drove the new 330i yesterday, absolutely loved the drive. Having owned three previous-gen 3 series (E90, F30, E92) I can definitely say the BMW feel is there . Enjoyed driving it. The car actually felt a little flatter-handling than F30, and the EPS is still the best EPS I have enjoyed so far.

Exactly what I did! Now considering a suspension upgrade to Bilstien B12 to get the handling the F30 deserves.

Congratulations! It's a great car no matter who says what. The hydraulic steering isn't coming back and the EPS will always be a little vague and artificial. Other than that, I think the engine is almost the same and once you have a new suspension, it should handle better too.

And the front- the bonnet droop, the amazing looks ain't coming back. The G20 grill is ugly, frankly.

I examined one in BMW Park Lane last week. The exterior is neat but derivative, however, I sat inside and, I don't know how to say it, everything feels just right and where is should be. It felt like nice and snug and the controls were just right.

Note love at first sight but love at first touch!

Absolutely. F30 is beautiful especially the bonnet. G20 is plain ugly.

BTW, regarding F30 steering - I have now done ~7000km and at slow speeds, the slack at the center is very unbecoming of a BMW, my GTI steering (also electric) is sharp, so it's not a generic "Electric" power steering issue. BMW have messed it specifically. However, at high speeds, the 330i steering is super sharp - weighs up very well and and not an iota of that slack. I think they have not calibrated the variable ratio properly. I am thanking my stars that whatever they have messed up with is at slow speeds. At high speeds, it steers like a dream and that's what I bought the BMW for!

Definitely a much more premium experience than the F30 & a better handling/steering car too;

A video review is in the making & the F30 plays a very important role in this video;

The G20 grill looks ugly in the pictures, but in person it looks much nicer.

While on a business trip to Japan sometime in March, I got some free time and visited Kobe BMW showroom, which was next to my hotel. And there it was, a beautiful blue G20 parked in the middle of the showroom. A close in-person look at that car changed my opinion. It looked stunning!

Here are some photos from that showroom:

A close-up of the headlights. The "Angel Eyes/Corona Rings" have changed over time and now almost completely gone, giving way to this:

The side profile is very similar to F30:

The rear actually looks bland to me. Looks a bit like Hyundai. I like the F30 rear much more than this:

Notice the X2 standing in the back. Wonder if we will ever get that in India:

The boot shape and size looked similar to F30. Of course, without the space saver tyre which is mandatory in India now and eats up a lot of this space:

The interior looked very classy and elegant:

The instrument panel is beautiful. Very good resolution, sharp and bright lettering, and in-general looks amazing (well, except for the anti-clockwise tachometer which is a bit weird):

The gear lever and the buttons around it. Notice the new position of the Engine Start/Stop switch. This position is *much* better than that in F30:

And finally, the iDrive screen was also bigger and better (higher resolution, and better clarity):

Confused between if one should go for 2018 F30 330i or a 2019 GT20 330i.
the former good condition car is available at almost 40% less

I believe you mean you are confused between the F30 v/s G20 330i.

If budget permits you should always opt for the latest model (G20 in this case), if not the F30 330i is similar in performance and should be a good buy at the price you are getting.

All the best
