The interiors are mind blowing but I miss the tactility of buttons. The amount of electronics is scary. I do hope they have good software engineers. I forgot, VW have very smart software eningeers who outsmarted lots of people.!

The guy in the review states that the screen provides tactile feedback along with a beep. He even seems to enjoy the tactility.

IMHO this looks more like a Volkswagen than an Audi. Just talking about the exterior styling, it no doubt is an excellent car but I have to say, doesn't look like an Audi from the outside, just my personal opinion.

Hate it when they join the tail lights on a car. Takes something away from the character of the design.

So, I prefer the front compared to the rear on this new A8. Even the W140 S Class has joined tail lights and I hate it.



Anyways as a whole, the new A8 is definitely not a patch on the gorgeous S Class. Mercedes is walking it.

2018 Audi A8 unveiled – new tech, standard mild hybrid system, world-first Level 3 autonomous driving, targets the Chinese market.

Audi's redesigned A8 flagship luxury sedan will feature Level 3 autonomous driving capability for urban traffic jams.

Or it will, eventually, if laws in specific regions are changed to allow it.

In a case of technology outstripping humans' ability to keep up with it, Audi says the redesigned A8 will launch this year with all of the technologies and sensor arrays necessary to enable the car to fully pilot itself in bumper-to-bumper traffic.
But those features won't be turned on by Audi until laws are passed in each jurisdiction to enable the technology to operate legally.

Two engines will be available from launch, both of them being reengineered 3.0 litre V6 engines in 340 hp/500 Nm TFSI turbo petrol and 286 hp/600 Nm TDI turbodiesel forms. From next year, the A8 will also be offered with more powerful 4.0 litre twin-turbo V8 mills, with the diesel version producing 435 hp and the petrol mill with cylinder deactivation churning out 460 hp.

Sitting at the top of the range is the 6.0 litre biturbo petrol W12 on the A8 L, which also has cylinder deactivation and produces 585 hp and a stout 800 Nm of torque. All engines will come as standard with a mild hybrid system that features a new 48 volt main electrical system. This uses a belt alternator starter (BAS) linked to the crankshaft, which captures kinetic energy and sends it to a lithium-ion battery

The system allows the new A8 to coast with the engine off at speeds between 55 and 160 km/h for up to 40 seconds, before the BAS revs the engine up to produce a swift but smooth restart; the engine stop/start system also kicks in below 22 km/h. Overall, the mild hybrid system cuts fuel consumption by as much as 0.7 litres per 100 km. Petrol engines will also be fitted with particulate filters from next year.

Later on, Audi will offer the A8 L as an e-tron quattro plug-in hybrid, utilising a 3.0 litre TFSI V6 and an electric motor integrated in the transmission to produce a total system output of 449 hp and 700 Nm, propelling the massive four-door from zero to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds. A 14.1 kWh lithium-ion battery provides an all-electric range of 50 km. A 3.6 kW wireless inductive charging system will be available as an option.

It sounds like a paid review. He has not driven the car. Mercedes came out with the active suspension technology with the S-Class.

I second that.

Apart from advanced autonomous feature of A8, i don't think any other feature can stand against that of Mercedes luxury and comfort. Some of the features like perfume atomizer, road scanning, adaptive suspension etc are already available as in Merc's S-class and Maybach.

I would prefer the S Class any day. Replacing the physical climate control button wasn't a good idea. And check out the fingerprints on the screen. I bet the owner wont like to see that.

Audi details new A8’s AI Traffic Jam Pilot, First Level 3 Autonomous System in the Market.

Dubbed the Traffic Jam Pilot, the automaker confidently says it will allow drivers to “focus on a different activity that is supported by the car, such as watching the on-board TV”—so long as they pay some attention to the road.

The Society of Automotive Engineers calls level 3 “conditional automation,” which is about as accurate of a phrase as it gets. It’s a notch above Tesla’s Autopilot, in that Audi says that drivers will no longer have to “continuously monitor the car and can focus on another activity supported by the on-board infotainment system.”
