Re: Spy Pics: 2021 Mercedes S-Class (next-gen)

The S- class is one vehicle of which the technology and it's gadgets gives the world a glimpse of what the future mainstream offerings are to be.

This has personally been an exciting aura around this vehicle for as long as I remember myself to be into cars and speed. But I am left unsatisfied with this particular S-class. Whereas there used to be countless new mouth watering gadgets and features previously, all I have seen today is the rear seat airbag. I am deliberately ignoring the fingerprint accessed profiling and personalisation by MBUX because frankly, it feels really unnecessary and forced. Not really a revolutionary addition to the car.

Oh my god! What have they done to it's face!? W222 looked incredible. What is this? Interiors? Fine, as expected. But I can't fathom what went through the design team's heads? It is ugly. To be entirely honest, even a B-Class looks better than this.

I feel the exact same way.
The front doesn't do it for me either : (... but still somewhat digestible compared to the rear.

Friendly banter between luxury car makers BMW and Mercedes-Benz about New S-Class

The 7-Series was shown making its way up an S-shaped hill road

Screens, Screens and more big screens. Almost everyone is bringing in ultra screens on the center console. Tesla impact I guess and it is absolutely UGLY IMHO.

For some unknown reason, Renault Scala & Fluence comes to my mind when I see the front pictures of the new S class

Re: Spy Pics: 2021 Mercedes S-Class (next-gen)

Modern day cars are loosing their exclusivity & character, & i am surprised to see a bespoke car like the S class has also joined the gang.
The dash is a mixture of touchscreens and one will not be able to experience the tactile feel of the exclusive buttons which used to be present earlier.
I am sure that the companies are also saving costs by reducing the number of high quality buttons and switching to bland looking touchscreens.
Over engineered cars have actually become a talk of the past and all companies are only looking at just profitability

Very disappointing exterior design for the new S. Only the interiors seem worthy.

Meanwhile, Lexus LS500 seems like a collectors' limited edition car compared to this.

OH Mercedes, what have your done

While the interiors continue to evolve, and contrary to others opinion I find the rear acceptable, the front just reminds my of a Hyundai .The moment I saw it, got confused, is it the new Verna/ Elentra??

Still cant digest the fact the Mercedes designers have done this.

Shmee150 video.

Rundown of lots of gimmicks in this video.

While the W222 was unanimously loved for the interior, this one just does not feel so special.

Will refrain from commenting on the exterior, we might grow to tolerate it.

Echo the same thoughts.

I was just discussing offline how the S class and other Mercedes were about interior materials.

I had remembered a Top Gear episode where they kept talking about the buttons on the C class and how they were engineered to offered the exact haptic feel and sound when clicked. The beautiful analog clock on the S class.

Now it's just slap on 2 huge screens and let the software do everything. I absolutely hate this trend of having massive touch screens over buttons especially when the buttons were finished in a metal and knurled and had this positive click when pressed or turned.

I'm quite disappointed overall with the interiors.

How much technology is too much technology?

I love the S class, I mean who doesn't!!
But I just get overwhelmed by the technology this car packs. How much of it will keep working like it is supposed to 5 years down the line. There has got to be some reliability compromises for putting so much tech on board and what I fear is half of it, nobody is going to use.

All New 2021 Mercedes S Class - all Safety Systems (explained)

Loved the way it changed lanes. Absolutely no body roll. Would be interesting to see a moose test (it would nail it).

Re: Spy Pics: 2021 Mercedes S-Class (next-gen)

I am unsure of the latest S class' exterior. Certainly the outgoing W222 had much more universal appeal. Strangely the lower models don't sport the retracting flush door handles.
Also, S class equipped with smaller wheels get larger optional rear wheel steering radius. I wish MB India equips Indian model with rear wheel steering.
