I wonder how reliable these units will be 7-8 years down the line, and how much it would cost if something happened to them. People would be extremely cautious inside the car the same way we are with expensive phones or laptops.

They should be able to resolve the safety aspect related to these handles in case of emergency situations that the car catches fire because IIRC a person got trapped and died in a Tesla when it caught fire and people outside were unable to open the door of the car due to it having pop out handles which failed.

New S-Class airbag for severe frontal collisions that detach from the front seat backs, extending the protection systems for the two passengers in the external rear seats

the German carmaker reveals that it will feature the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX), new features such as directional rear axle, new rear airbag and new safety function that can lift the body immediately before a side impact - new from the E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL suspension

Another novelty is a breakthrough in driver assistance systems - which are approaching autonomous driving.

With improved environmental sensors, parking systems provide the driver with enhanced support when maneuvering at low speeds. In addition, visualization now reaches new levels due to integration into the intuitive operation of MBUX.

Regarding maneuverability, the sedan with long wheelbase gains agility with four-wheel drive.

The E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL suspension features the PRE-SAFE® Impulse Side, which is able to lift the entire body of the vehicle immediately before an impending side collision.

Autonomous driving:

The new S-class features new assistance systems that help drivers respond to impending collisions as the situation requires and ideally avoid them.

The Active Parking Assist and 360° camera with a new 3D view allow the driver to park, unpack and negotiate tight spaces with ease and convenience.

The new features are as follows:
Active blind spot assistance
Active parking assistance
Integration of optional rear axle steering, proportional trajectory planning
Parking package with 360° camera (standard)
Extended environmental sensors, now with sensor fusion: four additional cameras (front, rear and external mirrors)
This allows more available blind spots to be recognized

2021 Mercedes S-Class Interiors revealed - Shines With New Ambient Lighting.

One thing to look forward to when stepping inside of the 2021 S-Class is the new ambient lighting. Hundreds of fiber optics made of a totally transparent coating line the door panels and floorboards, each fiber optic fixture consisting of about 250 LED lights. The goal, Mercedes says, is for the new ambient lighting fixtures to create a single continuous line of light throughout the vehicle.

Adding to @evoker's point, the tablets/screens are bound to look dated and feel sluggish in a short time. I wonder if they plan on switching them every few years as I would hope and expect a car, especially one at this price point, to be used and enjoyed for a long time!

All that tech will just end up being pass time entertainment for the chauffeur. They should consider putting in a large number of easter eggs so that the chauffeur can entertain himself for many years.
