Well, it is the real deal. Spy shots had been released around august and compared to them, i'd say the only noticable difference is that they have toned down the wheel arches a bit. A shame, but it still looks pretty muscular. From a M3 fan to the designers at BMW: Bravo!

Ealier it was said that the upcoming M3 was going to be so radically different that people might mistake it for a new model between 3 and 5 but it looks more or less a brawny 3 series nothing too radical about the design though I simple love it .

Meet the new BMW M3 - one of the most-anticipated cars of 2007. A near-production ready concept version has been unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show.
Although there's no word yet on this super sedan's engine details or performance figures, we do know that there will be a red-hot 4.0-litre V8 engine under the bonnet.
The expected power output is 313kW, which is 88kW more than that of the already impressive 335i coupe.
According to insider information it will take the M3 an amazing 4.9 seconds to do the 0-100km/h sprint. Naturally top speed is limited to 250km/h.

This V8 will be mated to a six-speed manual gearbox or a new seven-speed SMG automatic transmission.
Apparently the production M3 will come with BMW's active M differential, which allocates drive to the wheels with the best traction improving handling

The BMW M3 concept's design is also pretty close to the "real thing".
BMW showed a similar concept of the M5 in 2005 and it went into production virtually unchanged.

i only meant in the looks dept, for me looks are as important as the performance factor, thats y this will never be a car i will give a second look too on the road or when i am looking for a car for myself..

i have no doubt it will be a great performer but there will always be someone better in that dept and the looks..

it looks pretty good to me!! atleast it is a lot better than the present 3 series. previous m3's were not too different from 3's, but now, as far as i can see, they have changed all the body panels, redesigning the lines, giving the m3 a better look....

Mmmmmmm, smokin! That's going on to the most-wanted list! Only wish the quad exhausts were at the edge of the bumper, rather than grouped so close.

Specially the latest pic's of the maroon M3, seems like it needs lower profile tyres and bigger alloys. Hopefully BMW will change this, they usually well designed and rather large alloys for most other M models.

Although beautiful, I somehow prefer this artist's brute rendition:

looking good, but did they take the wheels of a bmw 316i??? it has be be way more low profile.
agree that the exhausts have to be spaced apart wider.
other than that i really hope DSC can be fully turned off (unlike the M5) to go sideways
