How about as a replacement to the current Fabia? Like a Fabia 2.0 or something on those grounds?

ŠKODA SCALA World Premiere , held in Tel Aviv - Israel

- Guests from 22 countries attended the Premiere

- Sits between the Fabia and Octavia in the Czech brand’s range ( Ford Focus and VW Golf rival )

- At 4,362mm, the Scala is still over 10cm longer than a Golf – but a full 30cm shorter than the Octavia.

- Skoda is responsible for products in the Indian sub- continent

- ŠKODA SCALA - 3 years of development time

- Updates over the air in Scala

will have four engines to choose from at launch. The core of the line-up will be a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol motor, offered with either 94bhp or 114bhp. There is also a more powerful 148bhp 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol unit, complete with cylinder deactivation to boost efficiency, as well as a 1.6-litre diesel delivering 114bhp.

The base petrol unit gets a five-speed manual gearbox; all of the other engines are offered with a six-speed transmission, along with the option of a seven-ratio dual-clutch automatic.

The rear seats are split 60:40, and when they’re folded down the Scala’s boot capacity extends from 467 litres (120 more than in a Focus) to 1,410 litres (an increase of 140 compared with a Golf).

I don't know why anyone would buy a bland, Polo-ish looking Golf over this.. this car is the first Skoda I have liked aesthetically since the Laura.

Interesting looking headlight and tail-lights, generous glass area, good rear seating space and great luggage area. Just the right size for a country like India as well, without looking like a silly SUV. I think this is just as much as a family hatchback as it can get. If Skoda can bring it here QUICK with a 20L on-road atleast for starting variants many will get into the luxury hatch ownership queue, I might as well. With Hyundai testing i30, Skoda should beat them to it bringing the Scala into the market.

The value-game is heating up in India now in the 15-25L market, with the big-3 vehicles all exceeding 40L at a minimum, I think more than a fair share of people are open to spending a decent amount for properly built feature rich cars like Skodas, Kias, Hyundai's first electric SUV the Kona etc. Rumours are rife that Audi might even bring in the A1 which is the Audified version of the Polo at sub 30 prices.

I think for the upper middle class/aspirational middle class, 20L is the new 10L, time to thin out the compromised vehicles.

Skoda has no plans of bringing the Scala as per the road map revealed till 2022.

Audi A1 now is rumored to not be launched as a CBU and no plans of local assembly either.

Re: The Skoda Scala Hatchback - Might be coming to India

Not sure if it fits in our market. They are better off selling a crossover at these price points to customers in India.
Also, I dont know why they need VW in India. Skoda has better looks and they dont skimp on features either. If VW is present, they might remove features in Skoda to make it subservient to VW.

Re: The Skoda Scala Hatchback - Might be coming to India

Skoda's priority is to stick to the plan being developed specifically for India (as part of 2.0 strategy, but could evaluate the Scala beyond that time plan and will be a premium offering in a segment above Skoda Rapid.

Skoda Auto CEO Bernhard Maier :

We will start with cars that are being developed specifically for India (as part of 2.0 strategy) and then look at more models for the Indian market and the new Scala could be one of them
Quote:
The Scala will be positioned above the Rapid in India and to make it more appealing, it will be launched only with the most powerful motor in its range, the 1.5-litre four-cylinder TSI petrol that puts out 150hp and 250Nm of torque

Skoda has seriously upped its game in the design . Some of their cars are now even better looking than Audi!

Offtopic: Is Karoq a part of this 2.0 strategy and When are they going to launch it in India? With Fabia missing, their lineup has many open slots.

Looking at the 3/4 view, the Scala bears a strong resemblance to its richer cousin, the Audi A3 hatchback.

Re: The Skoda Scala Hatchback - Might be coming to India

This is simply delicious. I would surely be in the line to buy one, especially if it comes with the 148 horses spec.
Somewhere, the diesel gate scandal has plagued VAG reputation everywhere and I guess they are not leaving a stone unturned to rectify that.
With SKODA running the rules for India, I just hope they fight for a larger chunk of the market and a change in customer perception. @SKODA, While at it, please review your service channel in India. It’s the biggest factor holding your sales.

Re: The Skoda Scala Hatchback - Might be coming to India

Finally! A worthy upgrade for most Polo/Vento/Rapid owners! The Octavia has grown to become too expensive for an upgrade for some of us and the T-Cross/Kosmiq will be just another Polo on stilts!

The 15-20 lakhs segment will be the sweet spot! Anything more and it will be dead on arrival! The 1.5 TSI with a manual gearbox is the one to die for! Hope they get rid of the speeding alarm rule by then.

Once a VAG owner, trust me, you'll be spoilt! Nothing else satisfies you. Unless you're in the luxury segment.

Well, this does not look hot or sporty at all to my eyes. The rear overhang is too much, and the car looks more like an estate rather than a hatchback. Would have preferred a much smaller and tighter rear to make it look like a hot hatch.

This is not a hatchback but more like a sportback, a segment yet to be taste success in India.

For hatchbacks they have the Polo's and the Fabia's.

Re: The Skoda Scala Hatchback - Might be coming to India

Is it only me or anyone else who feel Skoda designs are more appealing than their bigger sibling Audi?

Latest cars like the Octavia vRS, Superb, Kodiaq, Karoq and this latest addition Scala is really soothing to the eyes. Those design elements are absolutely eye smashing. Hope they bring this car to India soon
