1. Cadillac published a series of 'love' tweets tagging their competitors and ending with a heart emoji.
2. Jaguar, BMW responded and played along
3. Tesla, Audi and Mercedes didn't take the bait and didn't respond
4. Michelin joined in the fun unsolicited
5. Most unexpectedly, Lexus left Cadillac awfully burnt and savaged (skip to last one Point 6 for details)

Cadillac:

Michelin jumped in:

Mercedes did not reply to Cadillac.

My take on Lexus vs Cadillac:
Lexus indeed has an EXTREMELY polarizing grill. See below pic for the official team-bhp pic:


Cadillac is almost as old as the earliest automobile companies(>century old) and Lexus is only about 2 decades old. So, yes, there is an age gap as rightly called out by Lexus.

Overall it was fun - could've been more had Audi and Mercedes jumped in.

@Mods: Count of Smileys exceed the limit as I kept the quotes as-is from twitter. It'll be your prerogative to retain them or drop the smileys to keep it to 2 as per forum rules.

Lexus, on the other hand, was stupid. Someone graciously compliments their (ugly) grille and Lexus has to get all arrogant & rude. Idiots. Must be the same duds who designed that sad grille in the first place.

Surprised that Twitter-friendly Tesla didn't respond.

Lovely. Those managing the Cadillac, Michelin and Jaguar social media pages need a nice raise! :)

Lexus acted like a spurned lover and BMW/Mercedes probably got the game wrong. Fast food chains are known to be terrific when it comes to Twitter/Facebook banter, good to see auto companies chime in too. Harmless, free marketing!

But Cadillac twitter handler shouldn't have mentioned something that polarizes car buyers' opinion in the first place. They should have ideally mentioned Lexus' dependability (in the context of love and relationship).

Meanwhile, if I was managing Lexus' twitter handle, I would have given it back (for Cadillac's slightly negative tone) this way -

Dear Cadillac, we don't care what anybody says either. You are still young at heart. <Swipes Right>

Didn't come across that way at all to me. I thought the responses were perfectly in keeping with the light-hearted, 'needling' banter of the thread. Like two old college buddies teasing each other. Found it funny.

I'm pretty sure the people (must be a team really) in charge of each of those Twitter handles are seasoned ad/marketing copywriters, should be some of the best and most creative in the business.

Kudos to Jaguar, for maintaining that class British sense of humor. clap:

You're right since these are all megabillion corporates. It's pretty creative too. Nevertheless, these handles cannot hold a candle to the FB (not Twitter) page of Kerala police. It has more than 1 million followers and officially run by six policemen who are doing it as "other duty" along with their regular police duty.
