Somehow this looks like a rebadged Brezza with loads of changes to exterior. And if that is the case, I wonder why MSIL didn't plonk the 1L turbo in Brezza?

The underneath of Brezza has good enough space to fit a 4WD system if the exhaust is rerouted.

More details on the Raize by Autocar

- On the inside, the Raize will share the Rocky's dashboard design replete with faux brushed-aluminium bits on the AC vents and steering wheel. It's will get a driver-centric cockpit like centre console along with a freestanding infotainment screen, which seems to be an 8.0-inch unit. The model is also to share the same three-spoke steering wheel as its Daihatsu cousin.

Under the hood, the new Raize gets a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder, 12-valve turbo-petrol engine that’s good for 98hp at 6,000rpm and 140.2Nm of torque at 2,400-4,000rpm. Gearbox choices would include a CVT initially with a six-speed manual to be added later.

Interesting that the MT will be added later on and it will launch only with the CVT initially

Indeed. It seems that Toyota wants to position the car as a premium alternative in the segment and later make it more affordable by introducing a stick shift. This doesn't always work though. CVT will push the prices up by a lakh or so, in the XUV territory we can say. Getting the entry price right at launch is very important.

Also, output figures of 98 BHP and 140 Nm look quite underwhelming as other 1.0-litre turbo-petrol SUVs are pushing out more than 120 BHP and 170 Nm currently.

Toyota has always been greedy with the initial pricing so I think it will be priced similiar to the Yaris (launch price) give or take 50k since they would also be bringing their version of the Brezza which, like the Glanza, will be a tad bit cheaper than it's Maruti cousin so it nicely slots in. Think the Etios and Yaris segment structure.

As for power, the numbers seem to be of the CVT variant which will need to be a bit detuned. I think(and hope) that the manual will have more power available.

fuel efficiency (although it is a target value only), front wheel drive (FF) is 18.6km / L in WLTC mode, "X / XS / G" is 23.4km / L in JC08 mode, and higher grade is 22.8km / L, 4WD (AWD), 17.4km / L in WLTC mode, 21.2km / L in all grades in JC08 mode, so fuel efficiency up to here is realized with non-hybrid and turbo models
