So if the Chiron is limited to 500 cars & if the next 100 they launch in separate 5 different limited editions based on the Chiron & charge 2 or 3 times the Chiron & still be able to get sold out on announcement, before arrival it surely is good, highly profitable business for them.
Forget diesel gate..they still haven't made any profit out of what they spent on r&d for the veyrons or Chirons sold until now. They make a loss on every car sold except maybe these ultra limited edition models.

Apparently it costs Bugatti 1.8 mill to make a veyron but they were sold for 1 mill each.

The Veyron production run was so long that unless you are averaging the production cost over the entire run, a per-car production cost isn't meaningful. Moreover, the customer price of the Veyron increased over time, particularly so for the special edition models (like Super Sport, Grand Sport, Grand Sport Vitesse, and so on), with some priced starting at nearly $3M USD. Many Veyron customers also customized their cars heavily, which was another framework through which Bugatti could recoup production cost.

As for the Chiron, its base price was set high enough so that Bugatti wouldn't lose money on any unit.

I strongly believe Bugatti is on the right track. They aren't making different "versions" of the Chiron. I'd say the Chiron Sport is a version of the Chiron. The Divo, Voiture Noire, and Centodieci all have enough differences from the Chiron to warrant them being treated with their own identity. The Divo has significant aero and exterior development. La Voiture Noire and Centodieci have completely different exteriors. According to Jonny Lieberman from Motortrend, the former has a longer wheelbase. The Centodieci too has a completely new body design language and more power.

Yes, they all build over the Chiron but my point is that there probably is enough new engineering and changes in the fine print to warrant these hypercars as their own identity. Bugatti has a rich history for creating one-offs and rebody-ing their cars. I don't see why they shouldn't carry that into the 21st century!
