I guess Hyundai is thinking that success of Lexus in western market is due to their Huge and ugly(ish) spindle grill designs and blindly following the them and making it worse

Hyundai used to design bad looking cars earlier, then they have completely changed the look of their cars with beautiful fluidic design. Now though, back to where they have started
It's KIA now produces best looking cars among Asian manufacturers.

This 'Genesis' seems to get the Genes from BMW this time.
What is Hyundai thinking? Even with a hit model like Creta, they are screwing up with the upcoming face-lift.

Looks like most of the manufacturers are trying to finish off quickly all the raw materials available at their factory to produce grills.

I request the mods to not have titles like "Ugly GV80" as ugly to one person might be beautiful to the next. These types of post titles do not reflect the neutral stance of TeamBHP in my opinion.

I for one really like the GV80 and I think the design works. It cannot be compared to the out-of-proportion BMW designs of late. And I think we shouldn't be judging based on blurry leaks.

Personally, I will reserve my opinion until I see the car in person. This is an imposing car size wise, and the early renders might not do full justice to the character and actual charisma that the car may (or may not) have in person. I generally like the design language of the newer-gen Genesis vehicles and this seems pretty much along the lines.

It would be wiser for KIA to position itself in the luxury segment than Hyundai trying another shot at the luxury segment. Atleast with the Seltos launch KIA has everything going and they should be the ones bringing in luxury models.

The Genesis does look imposing but in India no one really cares too much about what others think about how the car looks, as long as it meets their value proposition and budget, it's a sale.

More than the exteriors, the brushed -metallic+off white leather is what is more off putting frankly. There seems to be a "me-too" element to it. I guess that is what happens when everyone from RR/Bentley to Hyundai start making luxury products. I think the manufacturers were a bit more sorted out in the past. Therefore each brand had its distinct character.

I quite like the looks of this car.
Yes, the front grill fills most of the visual expanse, but it is not as jarring as the abomination, like those on the Lexus cars.

The rear looks really sleek and nicely put together.
Overall, the design is a bit bling, but I do not think Hyundai plans to go under the radar with this one. Hope we get the chance to see this in the flesh soon. A black car with chrome grills will be a proper gangsta car.

What is it about car designers & big ugly grilles these days? The ugliest manifestations are ones on Lexus cars. Genesis seems to follow the same route. They remind me of marine predators like the Great White Sharks swimming the ocean depths with their Jaws wide open hoping to pick up hapless prey.

Perhaps the bean counters in Auto OEM's feel if their cars drove around with gaping grilles they may swallow some market share from more sedately designed rivals!!!

May be its a literal grill... knowing how much Americans like to barbecue, flip up the grill, fire up the engine and wallah you can have a cookout anywhere. The hood also seems to be higher than before, may be there is a smoker hidden in there...

Owned a genesis coupe before. The dealership experience is not premium, you are dealing with service advisers who are dealing with sales volumes and also the worst resale you could have in your car is with the genesis models. Quoted 10% of the car value on a car with 6 years of ownership. The car may have all the features in the world but the snob value goes out as no one has heard of genesis before.
