9ff GT9:A Porsche As Veyron Killer

Quote:
26th March 2007

Specialist Porsche tuner 9ff is going after the Bugatti Veyron’s top speed record with this, the GT9, a 900bhp-plus mid-engined supercar loosely based on the 911. The car is currently being assembled at 9ff’s impressive new factory in Dortmund, Germany, in time for the annual Auto Motor und Sport top speed shoot-out at the Nardo test track.
9ff boss Jan Fatthauer hopes the GT9 will achieve 409kph (254mph) to eclipse the Veyron’s record of 407.5kph (253.2mph). We reckon it’s a good bet – in late 2004 9ff’s 911-based V400, powered by the company’s 840bhp engine, hit 387.9kph (241mph).
According to Fatthauer, the GT9’s 4.2-litre flat-six will produce 'at least 910, possibly 950bhp’ thanks to the advantageous positioning of its twin turbos afforded by the mid-engined layout.
If the GT9 makes 409kph on the 7.8-mile bowl it will be an impressive achievement – the Bugatti hit its speed on the 5.6-mile straight at VW’s Ehra-Lessien test track.
It’s a measure of 9ff’s growing reputation that it has already sold two GT9s at 400,000 euros plus local taxes.

these are just 1 off's i think. they do it once. unlike the bugatti veyron which is designed to do it regularly by just putting the key in the special slot.

They are after the record. bugatti has the record as well as a production worthy road car.

I doubt you can drive these cars on the road in traffic like a veyron.

Looking at the specs of the SSC Aero TT that was previewed in the magazines here last week, it doesnt look like it takes a lot to beat the Veyron. That car does it with half the number of cylinders and turbos, about 60% of the displacement and a lot less technical wizardry - at 30% of the price.

...but everyone only remembers the first of a kind to do something. So the Veyron's place in the history books is secure. Just as the Mclaren F1 will always be remembered for being the best. Ever.

yes but then again mclaren was on that mark for a good few years if i am rite.....but veyron is out just recently and there are people who are just gonna smash the record. I mean i dont even know whether the veyron has been delivered to all those who have ordered it and even before they get it there would be other cars on road already doing better than veyron.

Mclaren was good in its own unique way cos no one acheived it for long time after that and its technology was quite advanced for that time but veyron is just steppin out when its being challenged.

So i dont really think that veyon would be able to make history just because its record is being seriously challanged by two cars already and its not just a joke i mean the guys at 9ff and SSc mean serious business.

way to go 9ff!!

The veyron has already made history and no one can change that. It was the first production car to have 1000+ bhp and the first production car to achieve whatever speed it achieved. Period. No two ways about it.

Well first SSC Aero and now Porsche. The exotics are going Veyron way. Well Veyron will be veyron adn it has made it mark in history now. Veyron is a car that defy Gravity (read in an article)...

yes veyron will always remain a bug..

opps did i say that out loud

it should have been designed better, my only gripe with the car, the car should have looked like an SLR 722 or an Enzo or better yet a Pagani Zonda..

@ the current stage, its an ugly looking thing with a gazillion gadgetry a shape that is from the ice age..I would have cared for it when it would have looked sexy while doing what it did..

and yes i have seen few on the road..so my judgment is not based from pictures but live viewing..

Though on this topic of 9ff 911, it would be interesting to see what they get, i am not too found of 911 shapes as well but it still looks a lot better..

You must remember no one tried to break the McLaren's record because that period was when the supercar bubble burst. Jag XJ220s went from 300,000 USD to less than 100,000 in a couple of months. The days of the supercar as a tradeable commodity were over. Thus, no car manufacturer/tuner thought it prudent to invest a lot of money in a road-worthy car that would be faster than the McL.

Now we are in the midst, or somewhere in a global economic upswing. There is a lot of money to be made, and spent. People don't mind paying over a million USD for a horrible understeery, grasshopperish Ferrari. That's why there are so many people aiming for the Veyron.

Pawan, do you have something against the Veyron?

Bugatti Veyron has created one hell of a benchmark isn’t it? Everybody is running after it.

Remembered are the ones how create the benchmark not them who follow it…

And that design, it’s very difficult to do something new in automobile design now a days…
