Under the hood is a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder that features an intercooler and special water pump. It produces 204 horsepower (152 kilowatts) and 202 pound-feet (275 Newton-meters) of torque, giving it a power-to-weight ratio of 171 hp (127 kW) per ton.

According to Hyundai, the company could add an eight-speed dual-clutch unit if there's customer demand, but an auto gearbox isn't planned. Launch control is also available, as are several drive modes: Normal, Eco, Sport, N, and N Custom. The last one allows drivers to select various settings, like engine response and sound, steering, ESP, and rev-matching, suited to their tastes.

Re: Hyundai i20 N performance hatchback coming in 2020

If the exact model is available in India, looks like a good product. Hopefully, the pricing is not exorbitant. That analog speedo and tacho stand out along with ample of space in the driver's footwell.

Re: Hyundai i20 N performance hatchback coming in 2020

Could someone knowledgeable please explain how this version is different from the Hyundai Velostar N?

And why was there a need to bring up this model even though the Velostar N exists?

As far as I know, that is not an analog speedo and tacho. It is a digital one. The speedo and tacho design change based on the drive mode selected. This instrument cluster is now pretty common on all the modern Hyundai’s.

Looks like a fun car!

Meanwhile in India:

The all new 2021 Hyundai Creta with Fresh Zesty Graphics and Working brakes!

Jokes aside, I do wish we get some tight, zippy hot hatches. Real ones, not pretend ones with 100bhp and go faster stripes. But after what happened with the Polo GTI, I doubt anybody else will bother.

I'm expecting the regular i20 1.0 TGDi 7DCT to top out at 13 lakhs on-road Bangalore. (Considering Venue and Sonet comes near 16 for the same).

Adding our government tax penalty for the >1.2 L petrol engine + imported engine + all the mechanical changes = we can expect a 20L on-road sticker if the N makes it here, even if not CBU. Hence it won't.

I hope Hyundai at least considers an India specific N, with the 138hp 1.4 TGDi motor from the Creta - priced against the compact SUVs at 16ish on-road.

Veloster N & I30N Hatchbacks are the top of the line Hot Hatches sold in different markets with a 2.0 L TGDI setup producing 275 PS, whereas this is a starting range N model with a 1.6 TGDI and 200 PS

That's a considerable price tag. There might be a possibility it might face the same situation as Octavia 245s and/or Polo GTI (not sure if GTI was offered at discounts later on)? Discounts after putting a grand entry in the Indian market.

Re: Hyundai i20 N performance hatchback coming in 2020

Power and transmission is very similar to my Cooper S, would be a fun car to drive around. Would be curious to see the prices in Europe.

Don't think it will come and work in India, I can't see it being launched below 20L in India and if anything’s to go by, we certainly know Hyundai is yet to crack that segment in India. Maybe only 200 units would work as Halo product but then Hyundai isn't know for such tricks.

It's a shame we Indians have to shell out such high money per horsepower. The N line was rumoured to come to India but I don't expect it to be anything more than a stickerjob with no significant mechanical changes.

Although Hyundai knows how to sell their cars, but I doubt anyone looking at the GTI territory would choose a Hyundai over VW/Skoda.

Knowing Koreans are known to price their products very competitively, this i20 N surely will be an enthusiast car for those who can pay the price. My guess is, Punto Abarth being priced 10 lakhs+, this one surely with the inflation considered would be upward of 15-16 lakhs starting ex-showroom for sure if it ever launches in India.

Wonder if the 3 cylinder hot hatch from Toyota will also make its way out in 2021.

N Line gets the 1.0 TGDi in both 100ps and 120ps states of tune - which we will surely get anyways. All we could miss out is the 16inch alloys and N Line cosmetic bits then.

N is a different beast!

Think of N-Line as Polo GT, and i20N as polo GTi.

Pretty sure that's changed with the i20 winning the 2019 World Rally Car title.

Re: 2021 Hyundai i20 N debuts with 204 HP and 6-speed Manual Transmission only

The Indian market has proved time and again that it is not yet mature for such cars.

They fall into no mans land - everybody wants them but no one is willing to pay for them because their regular version is available at a reasonable price.

We cannot stomach paying more for engines and suspensions because the neighbours will not see the difference. It is for this, among other reasons (kitna deta hai, 2 doors, no bling) that the vRS and the GTI bombed.

Hyundai knows this and will not launch the car here. We, as enthusiasts, will be left to sit and drool over the one that got away.
