7-seater Jeep Compass teased; could be named Commander

Jeep Brazil has released the first official teaser of the brand’s upcoming 7-seater Compass-based SUV.

While the teaser doesn’t reveal the name of the upcoming 7-seater, it does give us a glimpse of the moniker, which ends with ‘ER’. This has fuelled speculations that it could be called the Commander.

Apart from the moniker, the teaser also offers a glimpse of the SUV’s newly-designed seven-slat front grille and a brand new set of headlamps, among a host of other design elements.

The interior of the SUV is also expected to come packed with features and equipment. It will carry forward most of the features from the 2021 Compass, along with a few additional ones as well. However, the biggest change in the cabin will be the inclusion of an additional row of seats. The car will be positioned above the Compass SUV in the brand’s global product portfolio.

Jeep is yet to reveal the exact powertrain options for the upcoming 7-seater SUV. However, it is expected to carry forward the same engine and transmission options as the Compass SUV.

Re: 7-seater Jeep Compass teased; could be named Commander

Interesting news!

Jeep already has a model named Jeep Grand Commander sold exclusively in the Chinese market since 2018. At first glance it shares many design traits of the Jeep Compass though I don't think the platform is the same.

Jeep also previously had the Jeep Commander XK on sale till 2010. However, I believe Mahindra has registered the name 'Commander' for use in India, with it being used for the Mahindra Commander 650 and 750 models.

Re: 7-seater Jeep Compass teased; could be named Commander

Commander? Seriously? So will the wheel turn full circle and M&M will sue FCA now for IP/Trademark infringement ? (I know realistically the trademark registration duration to use that name might have expired by now for M&M.)

It would be too stereotypical / cliché to name a 7 seater (people mover) as "COMMANDER" in India considering quite a lot of Mahindra Commanders (and Major etc) - still continue to ferry upwards of 15 people in rural India! The name is hard-etched in our minds as a low-cost shared people mover. Jeep better not take the decision to use this marque for a flagship car.

Re: 7-seater Jeep Compass teased; could be named Commander

I spent a major part of my early years in the hills of Uttarakhand (Tehri dam to be precise), there used to be this vehicle which was our daily point A to point B ride. Nice open, bumpy, loud, slow, and super spacious Mahindra Commander.

I agree that Jeep gave the license of producing Jeeps to Mahindra, and Mahindra did 'Roxor' with them in U.S.. Now as @Reinhard mentioned, Jeep just wants Mahindra to do the same to them in India?

This name Commander means 'Jeep' in India. But our 'Jeep' is not 'the Jeep', which 'the Jeep' thinks they are. Our 'Jeep' is Mahindra Jeep, this name 'Commander' is well woven in the fabric of our culture now.

Heck, even Garhwali local songs also have the mention of this name 'Commander' in them, when the guys used to impress the girl while driving a Commander

And 'Jeep Commander' is a kind of name, which is actually going to make a good number of people nostalgic, and disappointed at the same time. Nostalgia will be brought by the name and disappointment by the price!

With the kind of market research these guys do, don't be surprised if they moved ahead with it!

Re: 7-seater Jeep Compass teased; could be named Commander

Commander as a model name would be again landing the two UV/SUV makers in the courts of law here. Rather than meeting for joint ventures in boardrooms as they did earlier, they only meet in the courtrooms since the few past decades. The Roxor fight in the US is the latest

They have already fought bitter battles in the courts all through since the past many decades, especially for the front grille and fascia resemblance in the Mahindra models with those of the brand Jeep.

Jeep would now perhaps use a newer model name for the Indian market. Apart from keeping away from the legal hassles, they would try their best not to identify their new launch with a model name that has been in use by M&M and is well known since decades. Marshal, Commander, Major are all synonymous with Mahindras.

Jeep Grand Compass or Commander for Europe in new spy shots.

Quote:
It's a compass long version that's already been released in China and Brazil.

The test model is now seen for European markets.

It is made in an Italian factory and comes out of a 240 hp plug-in hybrid model

Re: 7-seater Jeep Compass teased; could be named Commander

Jeep Commander facelift spotted in Brazil; major update is speculated.

the Stellantis group's 7-seater SUV may be about to receive some major changes. Despite the disguises, the most relevant changes should appear under the hood.

The surprise should be for the powertrain. Today, the Commander can be equipped with the 1.3 turboflex of 185 hp at 5,750 rpm and 27.5 kgfm of torque from 1,750 rpm. With front-wheel drive, it always works with a 6-speed automatic transmission. There is an option for the 2.0 turbodiesel of 170 hp at 3,750 rpm and 38.7 kgfm at 1,750 rpm with all-wheel drive and 9-speed automatic transmission.

Quote:
The next step for Fiat's SUV should be the adoption of the new 2.0 turbo engine, dubbed the Hurricane 4 and which debuted Jeep Wrangler. But it promises to become more popular, now that it is also used in the newly introduced Ram Ramapge. It has direct fuel injection, twin-flow turbo, up to 272 hp of power and 40.8 kgfm of torque. The transmission is always 9-speed automatic, with 4x4 traction
But then the question will remain for the strategy that Jeep will adopt for this more powerful Commander. The most likely is the use of Ram's strategy with Rampage. The pickup has both diesel and petrol versions, but the sporty R/T appeal setup uses only the 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol.

Re: 7-seater Jeep Compass teased; could be named Commander

Jeep Commander will have the same 272 hp 2.0-liter petrol engine as the Ram Rampage.

7-seater Jeep Compass teased; could be named Commander-screenshot-20231114-195359.png

Quote:
Jeep will make the first changes to the Commander. The seven-seater SUV will now be offered with the 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. The launch will be in 2024, but the model is already running in tests.

In the case of the Commander, the new engine should replace the 1.3 turbo with 185 hp and 27.5 kgfm, which represents a considerable increase in power and torque. The change would be very welcome in the 7-seater SUV. After all, this is the heaviest model to use such an engine today. That's 1,685 kg, more than Toro, Compass and Renegade.
As a reference, the power-to-weight ratio is 9.1kg/hp. And the SUV takes a considerable 10.7 seconds to go from 0 to 100 km/h. Considering the new engine, the ratio (if the weight does not increase too much), can drop to around 6 kg/hp. And the performance will certainly be better.

Re: 7-seater Jeep Compass teased; could be named Commander

Spotted in Brazil: 272 hp Jeep Compass Blackhawk runs ready for debut Sporty version of the SUV will be part of the 2025 lineup, arriving in Q2.

The midsize SUV will gain a version with a sportier footprint, which will be named Blackhawk and will bring the 2.0-liter turbocharged 272 hp engine that equips the Ram Rampage pickup. Closer and closer to the debut, the utility vehicle has been constantly spotted on the streets and parking lots, wearing a smaller and lighter camouflage.

This time, the Jeep Compass Blackhawk was photographed in a parking lot. The SUV is almost clean, using only a few stickers on the front grille and bumpers, where small visual changes should appear. We can notice that it has a gloss black finish, both on the air intake and on the trim around the fog lights. Jeep already offers something similar in the Longitude version with the Dark package. The photo of the rear reveals the dual exhaust outlet, one of the indications that it will have the 272 hp engine.
Quote:
under the hood will be the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine borrowed from the Wrangler. It will have the same calibration used in the Ram Rampage R/T, generating 272 hp and 40.8 kgfm of torque, controlled by a 9-speed automatic transmission and 4x4 traction. In the pickup, this engine allows it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds, which gives an idea of the performance we can expect for the SUV.
There is speculation that the Compass will lose the 2.0 turbodiesel engine in the 2025 lineup and that this version would come to compensate for this change, becoming an option for those who want more power in the SUV. The 1.3 turboflex with 185 hp and 27.5 kgfm would end up being the engine for most of the lineup.
