Mercedes-Benz recalls 1 million cars worldwide over possible brake booster issue

Mercedes-Benz has confirmed a global recall of almost 1 million older cars due to a possible brake booster problem.

The company stated that in some of the vehicles, the function of the brake booster could be affected by advanced corrosion. This could result in the driver having to apply extra force on the brake pedals to help slow the car down, which in turn could increase the stopping distance of the vehicle.

As per the company's statements, old models such as the ML, GL and R-Class series manufactured between 2004 and 2015 could be affected. Mercedes-Benz stated that a total of 993,000 units have been recalled worldwide, of which 70,000 are from Germany.

Seems like the risk is quite high. I have so far been unable to find out any details of the recall in India though.

Re: Mercedes-Benz recalls 1 million cars worldwide over possible brake booster issue

"Recall" is indeed dreaded term in our professional domain too, viz, FSQA (Food Safety Quality Assurance) domain, stuff our nightmares are made of!

That said, voluntary recalls by the manufacturer, of the type initiated by Mercedes, are apparently proactive measures, based on risks assessments of deviations in manufacturing processes, leading to potentially dangerous/ hazardous situations/ life threatening behavior of product/ SKUs

Some interesting reads on automotive recalls, historically, some data is dated, though:
