A US court has allowed Mahindra & Mahindra to keep producing and selling the post-2020 version of the Roxor off-roader in the US market.

According to the company, the Easter District Court of Michigan issued an order on a renewed motion filed by Fiat Chrysler Automobile (FCA) to ban the post-2020 Roxor. The court declined to apply the safe distance rule to this case.

Following the ruling, Mahindra & Mahindra issued a statement saying, "With this ruling, Mahindra Automotive North America, a subsidiary of the company, continues to have no restraints on its ability to produce, sell and distribute the post-2020 Roxor in the US."

In 2018, Mahindra launched the Roxor in the US and Canadian markets. A complaint was soon filed by FCA alleging that it was a copy of the Willys Jeep. Ruling in favour of the company, the US International Trade Commission (ITC) ordered Mahindra to rework the design. The updated version of the off-roader was unveiled in 2020.

Yuck! They really changed it, huh? The Roxor now looks so ugly with that awkward face & chopped-off fenders that its resemblance to the Jeep is minimal. The face actually looks like it got badly broken, bruised & frightened in a street fight (err, court fight).

Good win for Jeep.

A reminder that the Roxor is not certified for use on public roads in the USA (it would never clear the safety or emission regulations). It's purely a cheap 4x4 that will be used on private farmlands and the like.

Mahindra has the last laugh then. This as usual will sell like hotcakes as a side by side 4x4 for all those fellas in the Midwestern and Western Agricultural and Ranching areas to use on their vast acreages. Ideal inexpensive reliable little ‘Jeep’ and Im sure there will be enough and more accessories to make it look like a Jeep for all those who want to, like me and my Thar. FCA can go and whistle in the wind now.

That's a nice rap for FCA :Cheering:and the change of grill does give Roxor a independent identity!
Well done Mahindra and good to see balanced settlement in US courts.
I do hope they do a limited launch of Roxor in India for maybe, on demand buying! Before I grow old/ older!lol:

Any idea why this contraption is so expensive? Roxor with doors/windscreen + Air conditioner costs $29,000 !

Road legal Jeep Wrangler (new) starts from $32,000. Pre-owned Wranglers will be even cheaper.

Yeah they had to get lawyers to redraw the front to keep the business alive. On its own, quite lanky it might be, but see what it's capable of in good hands.

India had this vehicle for so long, and naturally got wasted like any other good thing. Now in the right place, it's loved by those who own it. Something like the Classic 350 on UK soil.

I for one, really like the new face. Looks like a gun!

Love Roxor / Mahindra for this quirky sticker. Dont do anything stupid!

A win for Mahindra and frankly the customers wouldn't care less if it doesn't have mini-Jeep styling. And since it is USA, those who are bothered will definitely change the looks aftermarket (for a farmyard tool?)

Though I have always defended Mahindra's moral right to keep on making the Thar a wannabe Wrangler in india, it is high time Mahindra changed the styling. It is no longer a jeep, but a THAR to the layman. Mahindra has managed to build the brand. All the legacy SUVs had once imitated jeep, but made their own styling identity down the line. Hope Mahindra too does so for the next generation with baby steps in the next couple of facelifts. Off-roaders can look brawny without apeing jeep.

It's a very basic machine and its quite appalling to view especially its front facade. The designer was stressed its apparent to make something different from the three quarter plus century old seven vertical cuts on the front grille that has been evolved both by Jeep and Mahindra to appear in various designs. The court orders from time to time could have baffled the designer the most, compared to anyone else including Mr Anand Mahindra. There could have surely been a better alternate design in keeping with the court orders but Mahindra has zeroed upon thus freak frontal look.

The Roxor doesn't have blinkers which is glaring and the instrumentation is spartan. It shares many components with its siblings like the wheel discs of the old MM550 DP, tailights of the Major and many more. The chassis is also age old from the Jeep- Mahindra era.

With the maximum speed of 55 mph due to limitations of this powerplant, the machine may in this configuration never be street legal in many states in the US of A.

The factory was inaugurated in Detroit in the presence of the then President Donald Trump. Mahindra's several failed attempts to Getinto the US with the Scorpio Getaway since about 12-13 years were dampeners. Its good that the offroader's manufacture has been okayed and this will put brand Mahindra on the Yankee carmakers list.

I would say it is still a win for Mahindra even though they had to change the front facia.

At first glance, it doesn't look as great as its old Jeep face, but I'd say that the design has grown on me slowly.

IIRC, one of the reasons FCA really felt threatened by the roxor was that in some states it can actually be registered for road use without passing any safety or emissions regulations. This is done by owners themselves and only requires a fee to be paid. I wonder if there is any source for numbers on such conversions carried out so far.

This is a good win for Mahindra. There are already plenty of custom mods available for the Roxor, and the target audience for this vehicle is more enthusiastic about experimentation. If Mahindra plays their cards well, they can further build on this success by fostering a community and bringing in quality products in the future.

I have no idea either, but I'd like to point out that 29k USD = 43k AUD. And for 39.9k AUD you can drive away a petrol XUV700 AX7L AT in Australia.

You could actually retrofit a few parts required to legally drive this on surface streets in about half the states of the USA.
In North Carolina it's really easy and only takes about half a day from start to end to retrofit and legalise.
