hey all you tech guys...figure this one out.

i am seeing this for the first time. i guess - it's all about better grip and handling

though can someone throw some light on this baby???

What the hell is that??!!! Look like a cross between a VERY UGLY praying mantis and a truck with the turning wheels in the wrong place!!! Absolutely gross.

I remeber reading about this car some three years ago and wondering if it would ever make it to an auto show. It was a concept in 2001 I believe. I know it's a little hard to look at, but it has it's reasons. Imagine having 4 front wheels to give you traction when you accelerating hard. The 4 front wheels were also designed to give better grip and safety.

Don't think it will ever make it to production, but it is a fast car..

that is very freaking ugly

The only way I could see it help in this car is that there is more "grip" on the front end!!

They compared it with the Tyrrell P34. But thats not the answer, coz the Tyrrell team did this for a major reason. The reason being that in open-wheel racing there is tooo much air resistance in the front end due to the tyres. So what Tyrrell did was made the wheels/tyres smaller so that they could be inside the front wing. and not cause much trouble. Because the contact patch of the tyres reduced, they added two more tyres just behind them that could also be steered.

btw,

according to the covini website. they have got sponsorship from some co. in the geneva motorshow to take this car to production!

now we'll see really what people around the world think about it's ugliness

I can't figure out how to turn this car, you can't turn both the front wheels. Unless the steering is done from the rear wheel...


This is the Covini C6W and..............you can turn all 4 wheels.

That looks rather odd. May be it is steered by rear wheels as you said.

But, I think it should be possible to steer by turning both set of front wheels as well, albeit with different angles.

Is the rear wheel bigger than the front ones ??

Btw I have more pics of the car(they are from the same show as shown in 1st pic).

Yup, front wheels are 16" and the rear ones are 20".
