i20 GTi, A Diesel Hot hatch!!

Hyundai is to launch GTi version of the i20, A DIESEL POWERED ONE

Considering half our threads are based on rumors and speculation heres another (albeit pretty convincing) one, Hyundai has plans to launch a hot version of the i20. Now these reports are of Autocar UK whos usually made convincing predictions. It makes sense as well cos the hyundai brand is pretty competitive in the £5 - £15 k range, but they still dont have a hot hatch in that slot. Other than the Coupe (valu but not exactly a affordable sporty hatch) they dont have many sporty options in their range. The details available so far are

- powered by 1.6 ltr. Diesel
- around 200 bhp
- 0 - 60mph in sub 8.0 secs
- 17" wheels, bigger brakes, body kit

Now considering tht the India will be i20s mother base and the UK is a right hand drive market,
and if theres a God out there, an 8 lac, 200 bhp, Diesel sipping GTi will hit our roads, Ppppleaasseee

Oh yeah, for all those who think Im high heres the link

Autocar - Hyundai i20 'GTi' on the way?

Someone has to break the barrier in India. Hope they bring it. Will never sell for less than 8lac.

200BHP does seem a little too optimistic but around 150BHP and the weight of a hatchback should turn out to be a stonker of a performer.
But you never know, Swift has a GTi 1.6L 132BHP version in the UK but it still hasnt made its way to India given the popularity of the hatch here. So we might just be expecting too much!

even if hyundai were to launch it in india, do you think dealers would want to sell it ? I mean, look at how the Getz CRDi is being downright neglected

I dont think it will ever make it to india.
Hyundai has been a price consious brand and will definitely not sell a 8 lac hatch

Where to pay? I'm game for it.

I think the i20 with 1.5Ltr 110bhp is coming anyways, isn't it?

it won't really hurt if they keep that as an option, made to order type of thing.

Naiiiiiiiiice!

Getz CRDi isnt blazing the sales charts but it is most definitely selling in decent numbers. Customers might wake up the dealers/Hyundai with the success of the Getz CRDi thus paving the way for another Monster from the Hyundai stable. Maybe wishful thinking... but hey doesnt hurt

Don't know, I think I read in the other thread on the topic. But if it's going to co-exist with Getz, 1.5ltr should be it.
